I adore Dr Starks. She is very professional and courteous. I told her at my first visit that I am the type of person that doesn't want anything to be sugar coated and give it to me straight. I was cut by large shards of glass from a broken tabletop and severed my bicep tendon. The injury was so severe that it required makeshift tourniquets at the time of my injury. After an injury that nearly left me permanently disabled, unable to work in my trade, or ever be able to pick up my 2 year old son again, I was told that I would be specifically referred to Dr. Starks for my surgery. She thoroughly explained to me my injury, surgery options, risks, and the exact plan & timeline for my procedure. Dr. Starks replaced my tendon with achilles tissue from a donor and was able to repair my arm to what now feels almost completely normal only months later, with no issues. I had injured my Rotator Cuff and Bicep in my dominant arm lifting weights. After reviewing our hospital options we selected Lancaster General's Lebanon PA facility. My first orthopedic surgeon referred me to Dr Starks because she specialized in the type of injury I had sustained. I was impressed by the honesty and concern the doctor had for my well being. Dr. Starks completed a review of the MRI and after a physical examination, provided a detailed explanation of the injury in language I could understand. The severity of the injury was substantial and the surgery would be challenging. My surgery lasted about 3.5 hours and was very successful. Her care was exceptional. I followed the guidance from the doctor with follow up visits, through physical therapy and exercises with great results. After 7 months I would say I am at 85% flexibility and 90% strength but continue to improve with stretching and weight training. I have had orthopedic work done in the past on my lower back by a different physician and was moderately satisfied. Dr Starks is amazing! Two weeks after surgery my mobility was far better than prior to the surgery. My pain levels have pretty much went away completely and I'm only 6 weeks out of surgery. I haven't had to take anything for pain since a week after surgery. You would think having a total shoulder replacement there would be substantial amount of pain for quite a while afterwards. I highly recommend Dr Starks and with having arthritis in my other shoulder when it comes time to have it replaced or anything done to it I will be going back to her.
