Dr. Stewart did total knee replacements on both of my knees about 6 months apart. My physical life has been restored and mental anguish gone from constant pain. Prior to coming to Hughston Clinic, I put in a lot of work (2 years) to lose weight for knee surgery, but was still told 'not yet'. Dr. Stewart said 'You've done great, when do you want to schedule?' My surgeries went seamlessly, recovery & rehab wonderful (awesome staff), and I have been 'zooming' around and doing everything I need & want to do with zero pain for the last year and a half. I went hiking in Colorado for 3 miles and that's when I REALLY KNEW how wonderfully these surgeries have restored me!! Dr. Stewart is a phenomenal surgeon. He did a total hip replacement with a minimal incision of 4inches. I was able to walk same down. I had stepped on a nail and my foot got infected the hospital was talking that it might have to be amputated. Dr Stewart took a look at it and said he might can save it but would have to get me and surgery ASAP. I agreed and the very next morning I had surgery it's been a year long process and I spent a month in the hospital. But I tell you that Dr Stewart saved my foot and I'm so thankful to him for that. June 12th 2023 my foot was so infected they wanted to amputate it. Doctor Stewart said he thought he could save it, if I would let him operate. So I did and he cut off the heel of my foot almost to the bone. After a month in the hospital and rehab I have had to wear a cast for 9 months. It's been hell but he has been by my side the entire way and its almost completely healed up. I thank God for the skills he has and would recommend him to anyone. God Bless you sir!! UPDATE ON MY RECOMMENDATION March 2024: What is the best recommendation a patient can give? Having the same surgeon replace my other hip 5 months later. My goal was to be able to be back on my bicycle after 6 years of not being able to ride due to lack of mobility in my hips. The physical therapist stated that BOTH legs are the same length and BOTH hips exceed expected mobility in ALL modes (flexion, extension, internal and external rotation, and abduction). I rode my bicycle last week! A note about the Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phoenix CIty: Great team, excellent patient care. And my personal thoughts on choosing this facility over general hospitals or surgery centers: Minimizing risk of post surgery infections.! Having a hospital dedicated to orthopedic surgeries, their processes and procedures ensure no post surgery infections occur. Many of my friends have undergone hip or other joint surgeries with subsequent infections requiring complex surgeries to repair. THANK YOU TEAM HUGHSTON and DR STEWART September 2023: After interviewing 3 surgeons for replacing my right hip, I chose Dr Stewart. I am a man of a thousand questions and he answered everyone! I shared with Dr. Stewart that i would write a review when it was clear after PT that FULL MOBILITY had been restored. Mobility actually exceeded what would be normal for a 74 yr old man. So the best recommendation anyone can give is that I am having Dr Stewart replace my left hip next week! It is also important to acknowledge the INCREDIBLE team working with the surgeon and the entire team and facility of Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital. Best hospital experience ever. I had my follow up with Dr. Stewart concerning the status of my left hip today. Dr. Stewart has replaced my right hip and has repaired my right Achilles tendon where he also shaved a bone spur on the same foot. I can't say enough for Dr Stewart. He saved my foot from amputation. Excellent surgery skills in my opinion. Because of my diabetes I've had very slow healing and he has been with me every step of the way. I don't say a whole lot about people and especially don't recommend many people to anyone else. Dr. Stewart replaced my right hip. He uses the anterior approach, which is from the front. This requires a 4-5" incision which healed quickly. Although my muscles are slow in recuperating, since I am over 70 years old and inactive, the hip itself was perfect right after surgery. I did have to be careful until it actually grew into the bone. But I did not notice any problems related to the actual hip itself. Dr. Stewart specializes in the anterior approach and is why I chose him. Recovery is quicker and fewer muscles are damaged in the process. I would highly recommend Dr. Stewart if you are in need of hip surgery.Patient Submitted Review

Great experience! After being signed in there was a 10 minute wait in which I was called in to take all the necessary vitals. I then returned to the waiting room and was called back to see the doctor within 5 minutes. Dr. Stewart was very kind and listened to all of my issues. He then ordered new x-rays and discovered what was wrong. He then came up with a plan of action to solve my problem with my hip. I felt very comfortable and confident with his treatment plan for me. I have another appointment with in 6 weeks but I also can call anytime with any worsening problems or concerns I may have and he will see me as soon as possible. Last July after much suffering with a worn out hip at 75 years old I went to Dr Stewart and it was determined I needed a FULL HIP REPLACEMENT. I was uneasy about the operation because I knew it was pretty extensive but Dr Stewart gave me hope of pain relief so I had it replaced. To my surprise it was or seemed to be one of the easiest things I have ever went through. The hospital was excellent, Dr Stewart was excellent and from the day after till now I have not had a "single" pain in that hip, using no pain killers after 1st day! I could not believe it! This review is focused on my recent total hip replacement, the second hip and third replacement Dr Stewart has done for me at Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, AL. The first hip and ankle went so well, over the last decade or so, that there was no question that we would choose Dr Stewart and the Hughston Clinic again, even though it is several hours away. The experience and the results again validated my trust in Dr Stewart and the team in Phenix city. The work of everyone there was amazing, and the recovery was rapid. It has already restored a great deal of mobility. Eight weeks out, there is very little remaining deficit, and I'm able to do reasonable sessions of walking and recumbent exercise bike--up to an hour. From the start at the front desk to the prep team, surgical team, and the Anesthegist, the entire team treated me and my wife with respect, dignity, kindness and professionalism. I was extremely nervous about this procedure, they quickly put my concerns to rest. With the teamwork of everyone at both locations you cannot find a more cohesive group. When I returned for a 4 week follow-up they were every bit as nice. I suffered a severe MVA injury, breaking my left femur and most of my main bones in my right foot. I received care in NY that was, to say the least, sub par. I was moved to GA via the military to get to Hughston Clinic. A new state, new doctors and a new surgeon had me on edge and nervous about my prognosis. My visit with Dr. Stewart was truly amazing. He is extremely professional and treated me with the upmost respect and courtesy. Orthopedics in Macon Ga has primarily been monopolized by one major company which don't provide the customers with the courtesy and professionalism they deserve. I had my bunions and a nerve removed from both my feet in November. Best decision I ever made. I feet are healing and have less pain than before. The staff in the office were amazing and Dr. Stewart gave me all the information I needed to understand the procedure and post surgery recovery would be like. He is detailed oriented and informative before, during and after. I underwent a anterior hip replacement on my left hip. I was up and walking the next day. I mostly used a walker for the nest week and a half but did walk short distances without any assistance. It is now 4 weeks after the surgery and I have used a walker only once or twice (I admit I overdid things on those days). I've had very little pain and am down to one NSAID in the morning and will likely quit it soon. I never took anything stronger. I cannot rate Dr. Stewart as I did not see him. But I did see the PA, Maddie. Her bedside manner was wonderful. She found out exactly what was wrong with me. She listened, asked questions and made sure after she found the problem, I knew all of the courses of treatment. I give the 5 stars to her.
