Dr. Mathews (of the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio) performed my hip replacement surgery at The Bellevue Hospital on 5-12-25. It's now 7-1-25 and I'm doing great, with no problems. Sure, I'd rather have a real hip joint but mine was causing me so much pain and loss of function and mobility. So, if you MUST get a fake hip joint, Dr. Mathews is the surgeon you want. Dr Mathews is very caring. He takes the time to really listen to you. He does not push you into a decision but will advise you on what would be best for the outcome you want to achieve. Very conscientious of his work. My husband and I love having him as my orthopedic surgeon.

I did say that the urgent care didn't x-ray my back even though I told the lady I fell straight into my back I do have scoliosis. So was worried about it but nothing was ever said after I said just continued talking about my leg. But very nice can communicate very well! I enjoyed my visit and appreciate you all! So Far with only having my first visit about my broken hand. And surgery being next week so far Dr. Matthew's explained everything in a easy to understand what he's doing and what to expect and his Medical Asst. Dr Mathew’s is wonderful caring understanding and very passionate and personable about what he does to make you feel better and explains things very well what he is going to do or his plan of attack to get me feeling better very very knowledgeable etc. he also really takes my feelings into consideration on what is going on I would refer him to my family and friends

I can’t say enough nice things about Dr Mathews. Both times my elderly parent broke a bone, we were lucky enough to have Dr Mathews be the on-call doctor and do the surgeries needed. He took the time to explain everything, as to how to fix the issues, what he found in surgery, and how to proceed going forward. At a follow up appointment, he was able to problem solve with his staff to get the X-rays needed, given the inability of my parent to move on their own. We saw Dr. Mathews for a walk-in appointment and didn't have to wait long at all, his staff was very kind, and he was so kind to my daughter who was in pain and grumpy. Every time we returned, we were even more impressed with his care and concern for her needs, and he made sure that she was improving and taking the proper steps to return to the sport she loved. Went through the urgent care and saw Dr. Mathews. He is the most respectful and kind doctor I have ever met. I am chronically ill and have dealt with many doctors. Dr. Mathews was at once supportive of my needs while providing the level of understanding I desired. Options, nonsurgical and surgical were discussed. Several non-surgical options were more thoroughly discussed and I found him very open to trying a brace now and checking back in a month to see if more was needed. I like OIO and would support anyone who is referred there. No need to travel to New Albany for anything when we have great people here in Lima.
