I was greeted by a very nice receptionist that had me sign in. Had me take a seat within minutes my journey began. They took me in the back, did some test. The doctor that takes care of me, Dr. David Fastenberg, was not available, so I called my regular eye-doctor, Dr. Norman Reinach, who is a close friend of mind, and he recommended that I should see Dr. Ferrone. I noticed a rapid loss of vision in my right eye and was referred to Dr. Ferrone who diagnosed a macular hole in my retina, stage 3 (with stage 4 being the worst) . Surgery was recommended to repair the hole, sooner rather than later. Dr. Ferrone performed the surgery, which completely repaired the eye with restoration of vision considerably better than before the surgery. At every step of the way, before surgery and during follow-up visits, everything was very clearly explained. I consider Dr. Ferrone’s skills miraculous. Dr. Ferrone is by far THE best hands down. Had it not been for Dr. Ferrone my son would have a prosthetic eye. He was diagnosed with Coats disease at less than a year old with a very severe case. Dr. Ferrone has treated my 13 year old daughter for Coates Disease since she was 5 years old. He is as knowledgeable and thorough as can be!! When she first got diagnosed, I was worried sick because my daughter’s vision in her right eye was down to 20/100. Dr. Ferrone acted fast and performed laser procedures right away. He reassured me that with routine monitoring and treatment, my daughter‘s condition would not worsen and may even improve. My entire experience with VRC was great. Given the nature of the emergency (retinal detachment), they took me in right away and surgery was the next day. If you look up what is entailed in a scleral buckle, you gain an immediate appreciation for the skill these doctor's must have to do this. And, this was my eye and I was told by several ophthalmologists that VRC is the best. I really liked working with Dr Ferrone. Obviously, tops in his field.
