I met with Dr Thielke for the first time as a follow up to my first cataract surgery. (He did not do the surgery.) I was most impressed with how quickly I felt at ease with him. He got to know a lot about me in just a few minutes and integrated that information into what he needed to tell me. I switched to St Paul Eye Clinic specifically for my cataract surgery based on my wife’s experience and I have not felt more “at home” with every interaction I’ve had here: from the receptionists in every location I’ve been, to the schedulers, the technicians, and, of course, the doctors. I was fortunate to get in to the Woodbury clinic the day I called to try to get an appointment re my ongoing issue with red, itchy eyes. Dr. Thielke was able to see me. I expected a routine eye exam and prescription for new lenses. I asked myself why am I here and not at U of M Ophthalmology or Phillips Eye Institute? I knew I needed a much more thorough eye exam; more thorough than I was likely to get here. I could not have been more wrong. Dr Thielke listened carefully to my concerns, ordered the proper diagnostics and devoted the time necessary to explain my vision issues and he charted the course for future surveillance. I had symptoms of what I thought was a posterior vitreous detachment. I was seen by Dr Thielke who performed a VERY through exam and found a small very peripheral retinal tear. It wasn't easy to find. As a result, he made sure I saw the retinal specialist the next day and was treated with the retinal laser without problem. By his great work, he kept me from having much bigger problems. Dr Ringeisen the retinologist was also fantastic.
