My visit today at 10 was my 6 week post-op (carpal tunnel surgery). Most pain is gone and I can sleep at night. I was asked to make a fist and Dr. Lechner noticed one of my fingers locking and suggested that a cortisol injection would help. I was impressed with his observation and immediate option for a solution. As I write this it is 2:40 PM and I am able to make a fist. Dr Lechner is a great Dr and an excellent surgeon. I have had two types of surgery done by him and both have helped me. The more extensive one, he explained our 3 different options and which would be most beneficial for me. When we decided on the one we were going with, there was a chance that I would not be able to go back to work because of the requirements of my job, but I was able to go back after with therapy. Office staff fit me in on short notice due to a thumb injury from the day before. He had successfully treated my right thumb in 2014 so I had no hesitation in returning. After a reasonable wait time my hand was quickly x-rayed and I saw Dr. Lechner immediately after. He clearly explained my problem (broken thumb) and options for treatment. He steered me away from immediate surgery and instead casted my hand and told me to return in a week to see if my thumb is healing properly. Hopefully, this approach will avoid surgery and leave me with a fully functional thumb. Surgery is still a future option should that be necessary. After being injured at work 6 months ago I started down the rocky road that most call workman’s comp. After months of dealing with workplace risk department personnel and workman’s comp insurance incompetency, I was finally turned over to Dr. Lechner. From the moment of checking in with the receptionist, intake with the nurse, and finally the consultation with Dr. Lechner, I no longer felt like just a number in the system. The first time I saw Dr. Lechner he was called in by a local hospital on an emergency basis after a diagnostic liver scan with contrast went wrong and my whole arm swelled up....a potentially very serious situation. He was thoughtful in his approach and care over the following days and ultimately everything turned out well. Then years later after an injury I went to him after another doctor was suggesting two complex surgeries on my hand. Doctor Lechner told me that if I was a member of his family he would suggest I wait six months before even considering surgery. He was right on the money and the injury healed on its own. I had surgery to fix a dominate hand index finger yesterday. They did a complete arm & hand nerve block. Tre' interesting. No day after surgery pain. I injured my hands when I was in my 50s. In a bad economy I'd popped a parachute that was colored "Home Remodeling." It worked well for me for quite a while. The problem I had was that my brain had not received the message (chose to ignore the message was more likely) that I was no longer in my 20s. After the third injury to my hands I learned to slow down. Dr. Lechner attended to me on all three occasions. The first injury involved me crushing the tips of a few fingers, not the entire tips, just that sensitive part underneath. The part we feel delicate things with. I required a skin graft, and Dr. Lechner did an outstanding job. The second injury required Dr. Lechner open the palm of one of my hands to remove a splinter. This wasn't just any old splinter. In fact, to call it a splinter is misleading. It was chunk of wood that I had slammed into the meat of the palm of my hand while hand sanding a deck. Dr. Lechner remove it cleanly with no scarring. You can't even tell he was in there. The third injury (I was getting to know Dr. Lechner pretty well by this time) was to a tendon of one of my fingers. I got in a hurry using a chainsaw. This injury only required a brace for a few weeks. I can always tell a doctor that loves his/her work, and Dr. Lechner is one of those. I hope I don't ever need a hand surgeon again, but if I do you can bet I'll be calling on Dr. Lechner. I'm sending my older son to him to have a "splinter" removed from his hand now. Improperly using a knife (being an idiot), I sliced through my index extensor tendon, a very important muscle if you are a musician and craftsman like me.
