Dr. Jonathan Kalish has been my urologist for the past four years, having kept me alive with the removal of recurring bladder tumors,four times. He is not only an excellent, compassionate, deligent doctor and surgeon, but is a a great person to talk with. We were friends right away. He has, upon my requests, given me medical advice regarding other issues several times, which were extremely helpful and life saving! I continually go for quarterly check-ups for any new tumors, but always look forward to meeting with him. I can only say that about one other doctor. I feel this is how he relates to his patients. He is extremely personable. He has had me on two different types of therapy during these years…dependent upon whether I just had a tumor removed or treatments for maintenance every six months. Overall a decent experience! Mostly what I expected. check in was okay with filling in the forms then going back to the waiting for labs, this was no time waiting I didn't even sit down, however, the young lady who took blood was without personality except to say what she was doing and she did it! No small talk including 'hello' ' how are you?' 'have a nice day!' Nothing except-"go down the hall and turn right, then wait in the gray room." It seemed so abrupt. I did not see my doctor but a nurse practitioner, which is fine except I don't think my doctor knows me (or wants to) because I've only seen him one time in the past 3 years! The nurse practitioner was delightful! But the best part was the check in nurse who asked all the questions then had issues with the electric reclining table flipping me down to scan my bladder and slowly raising my legs- it was quite funny! Then did it again after asking me to empty my bladder again!! She was apologetic but at the same time laughing with me! Don't go back for a year!! I was having terrible pain in the recovery room, and he came back to check on me and had the nurse do a scan on me to make sure everything was okay, he is a very patient Doctor and down to earth. She presented several treatment options then immediately consulted with the doctor to get everything set. She then explained the intervention recommendation and set me up for surgery immediately. Sara and everyone I met were so very nice, caring and professional. It was a well orchestrated visit with virtually no waiting between tests. I have never been so favorably treated in any medical facility. I told my family and friends how impressed I was with my walk-up visit and surgical placement of a stent during the single visit. Everything went incredibly smoothly. I was never alone except for perhaps a couple of minutes. Each person walked me to the next procedure as soon as they completed their portion. I just wanted to do a review of Dr. Kalish and his team. It's a difficult thing to not have oneself exposed to strangers in such a way. But the whole team has taken such a proffessional way to make me feel comfortable in that respect. Now the situation I'm in with catheters is a tad painful. But Dr. Kalish and staff has made this as painless as humanly possible. And trust me when I say I am a 62 year old baby when it comes to pain..the surgury that we choose after discussing all options was a success. Dr. Kalish took the time as did the nurse practitioner to make me feel like I was not a number. Which in this day and age is rare. I'm progressing well. And I highly recommend the folks at Urologic.
