I have been to orthopedic associates 3 times now, for knee pain, arthritis in ankle and recent visit with a surgeon. And each time they have treated me like i was they only one there. They are professional. This last visit was with Dr. David Gregory, for the first time and the first time my husband came in with me. He even said he really liked him and was very professional. I am writing this on behalf of my wife and what I experienced when I went with her on her pre-surgery visit to Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster. My wife was waiting to see Dr. Starks, who I will write a review for in another post because she is phenomenal!! But who I am focusing on now is Kerri who was working with Dr. Starks. She is a sports injury nurse and like Dr. Starks is very efficient. She has tremendous knowledge and her people skills are 100 percent. She explains everything to a tee and is very personable, making you feel like she was your friend for life. It is the second time she has worked with us and every time was a pleasure to deal with. Everyone there was very courteous and polite. The front desk was very busy with situations that were not "cut & dry" so they were a bit involved. They handled it well with 3 of 4 stations operating. The intake nurse was friendly and professional. The X-ray department was prompt and the X-rays were crystal clear. I was referred to Dr Clyde post an RA flare that caused a sudden severe cellulitis requiring hospitalization during which time I had surgery resulting in a repair of a ruptured extensor tendon. The surgeon found other issues and referred me to Dr Clyde. During my time with him as my hand physician/surgeon, he has always taken the time to make sure that I've understood everything we've discussed/planned/etc. He's answered every question I've asked of him without hesitation, referred me to an additional Dr when another issue arose and has kept on top of everything with all of the physicians with whom he must coordinate my care. I needed a second surgery, but that was canceled due to other complications, in addition to my still active RA, but he's still monitoring and following up with me. No. I haven't always taken well what he's had to say; at times, there's been tears, but those are tears of my disappointment, frustration with the situation, etc, bc I do understand that he's always made his decisions with my best interests at heart (& I've understood that) and he's always done so as respectfully, patiently, and in as caring a manner as possible. I respect him and his intellect and his skillset... plus, he's a really a very nice person. I would not hesitate to refer everyone to him (who needs his skillset). When he offered to help me get a second opinion, I declined bc he's truly one of the best in his field and I trust that his decisions, thoughts for my care are sincere and the best treatment given my current situation. (I may question the man to death after my appts bc I often forget about the things I wanted to say or ask. He still takes the time to address them when he's able to do so. Dr Heinle is always great with my 94 year old mom with Alzheimer’s. (Among her other issues) He is gentle with her and very understanding. She has been having wrist issues and Dr Heinle explained how to put less stress on her wrist and use a splint. He allowed me to point out and question many things on the pre-op X-rays, and answered my questions in the detailed specific way I requested (demanded). I have never been disappointed with the Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster. I have had two surgeries, one on my shoulder and one on my wrist. Each was with a different surgeon. My visit recently with the physician's assistant, Chris, was an excellent one. I have seen him twice, and he is incredibly skilled, as is the surgeon who did the surgery. When I entered the facility, it was very crowded, so I thought I would be there quite a while, but that was not to be the case. The service was excellent and my wait time and seeing Chris took less than 45 minutes. I will certainly be using them again if the case arises. Dr. Clyde clearly explained the procedure he will use for my hand surgery. He answered my questions and encouraged me to contact him if I have more questions or concerns before the surgery date. I have complete confidence that it will be successful. Update 4 months after thumb CMC surgery: Surgery was so successful that I was finished with hand therapy by 12 weeks post-op and can barely remember what it was like to have a painful arthritic thumb joint! Two things that made it easier: I had occupational therapy to strengthen my hand before surgery, and I practiced doing everything with my other hand to prepare for the recovery period in a cast. Let me just say, it is absolutely worth it! 2 weeks post op and I don’t have that chronic pain that I was having before surgery. My sutures were very nicely stitched and not sloppy at all. One of my best health care decisions was choosing Dr. Clyde for my hand surgery. I initially saw him for a second opinion and knew then that he was the one I would trust for the surgery. He explained his procedure clearly and answered all my questions, and his background information and publications convinced me that he had the experience and skill to provide excellent results. I have now had the surgery on one hand and won't hesitate to have the other one done when that becomes necessary. Recovery is turning out to be faster and easier than I had expected. Update: My surgery was on July 30. Yesterday, October 18, I completed hand therapy and am now fully functional in less than 12 weeks! For anyone considering thumb CMC surgery, I have these recommendations: 1. participate in Occupational Therapy prior to surgery to strengthen your hand in preparation for a quicker recovery; 2. practice doing everything with only your other hand well in advance of surgery. Dr. Clyde has made it possible for me to return to a hand quilting project that I had given up on when I could no longer grasp the needle and tie knots. I tripped and broke my patella. The PA I saw in Orthopedic Urgent Care said I was going to need surgery to repair it. Dr. Horning said otherwise. He put me first in an immobilizer and then a T Brace. He saw what my problem was and explained everything I need to know about my prognosis. I owe Dr starks so much. I am most likely the most complicated case OAL has ever had. I had 4 surgeries in 2 years on my right shoulder. Was told I needed a replacement. Dr Starks was not convinced. She went in and found I developed a bacterial infection. And got me fixed the best I could get. Dr Starks cares she listened to me. Called and checked on me post op. And deserves more than 5 stars. I'm certain many have used OAL for surgeries and physical therapy; however, this was my first time ever to have a Total Knee Replacement. I saw Dr. Cooke and his wonderful staff from the beginning to present and must share my experience. The wealth of information before, during and after surgery was top-notch. If you want to recover correctly, do everything they suggest and recommend. The CareSense information was ideal and kept me on track on a daily basis. Having Nursing Coaches like Crystal and Chris were an added bonus and so knowledgeable and helpful. I always felt I was their only patient by how I was treated. I have had 3 different surgeries at OAL and they all went flawlessly. First I had a scope and clean out with dr. Gish to help push off knee replacement since I was younger and didnt want it yet. My knee finally degraded beyond any other treatments and Dr Cook performed my knee replacement. It has been nothing short of remarkable. Stuck to their plan and have had a full recovery with NO PAIN. Just 6 weeks ago I was in for a hip replacement. All I can say is AMAZING! For the first time in 5+ years I am pain free and walking w/o a limp. Dr. Gish, Dr. Cook, and PA Jess Streubel are amazing at explaining your full range of options and coming up with a treatment that works if you stick to it. OAL has been amazing. They have worked with probably every family member in my family. My daughter back in high school was a cheerleader and a flyer and they dropped her out of flying she went through two years with her wrist having a fracture and they were fantastic with her. My mother in law who I care for she has had very bad knees bone on bone they have been incredible with helping her to manage her pain I can’t ask for anything more. And myself I have been through a couple things with shoulder rotator cuff surgeries I have fell on my knee and just recently being possibly diagnosed with a auto immune disorder after taking a medication all of my joints major joints started to hurt incredibly and was unable to bend them. I have had orthopedic work done in the past on my lower back by a different physician and was moderately satisfied. Dr Starks is amazing! Two weeks after surgery my mobility was far better than prior to the surgery. My pain levels have pretty much went away completely and I'm only 6 weeks out of surgery. I haven't had to take anything for pain since a week after surgery. You would think having a total shoulder replacement there would be substantial amount of pain for quite a while afterwards. I highly recommend Dr Starks and with having arthritis in my other shoulder when it comes time to have it replaced or anything done to it I will be going back to her. I am now 3 weeks post op after A Labrum repair, my long-head bicep repair, and my bicep tendon repair. Before surgery I was having a lot of pain, and absolutely no elbow function due to my injuries. I have 2 open incisions, and 3 tiny incisions from the scopes. Overall my arm is feeling really good, Regained some elbow function (will improve with PT), still sore at times but good. I was in a very debilitating motorcycle accident.I was brought into Lancaster General Hospital. One of the associates from oal in the trauma unit was on call that day. Within a month and a half they didn't reconstructive surgery and multiple multiple other surgeries to save my right leg. Without the surgical team I would not still have my right leg.
