This was my first visit to his new office in Bellevue. I've always seen him in Issaquah, Redmond or Overlake. I liked the new space and the check-in service with the waiting room. Everything was very timely. Dr. Hulst has always listened very carefully to what I as a patient have had to say. He gives me straight forth information and makes sure that I understand. He lays out a plan and checks to see if I'm in agreement, then we proceed. It has not been an easy fix but he has used his talents and expertise and patience to direct and support me thru this process which included a knee revision surgery. I just love this doctor, who performed successful knee replacement surgery on me six weeks ago. At this follow up visit, he gave me his full attention, answered every question and concern I had, and created an action plan for gait imbalance I have resulting from hip surgery at another provider five years ago. At the end, he dictated his notes in front of me, which gave me the chance to absorb our discussion and his advice a little more fully, and take some additional notes of my own. Post op appointment with Dr. Hulst. Greeted me with a smile and asked how it was going. From my ear to ear grin, I think he already knew. He performed a revision to my left hip that had been performed by a surgeon out of the area. Prior to surgery, he asked me if I wanted my legs the same length or be pain-free, to which I replied, both of course. He told me he could make my hip pain-free, while lengthing my leg would be a surgery he could do he wouldn't recommend it. To which I said, pain-free it is. Not only am I pain-free after six weeks from surgery, but my legs are almost the same length. Talk about under promise and over deliver. Almost 4 months have passed since hip replacement. My English is bad so I will use Google translator. Each person has his own personal criteria in choosing a surgeon. At 63 years old, I have not had any operations. Hip replacement is the first surgery. For the last 2 years I have lived in severe pain. It was very important for me to meet a doctor with whom I would not be afraid to go into the operating room. The second important criterion for me was postoperative contact. I was very lucky - I met Dr. Hulst! On the day of the surgery I was completely calm. The postoperative period went quite smoothly, but I had a lot of questions. My recovery has been quick with taking short walks just 3 days after hip replacement surgery. It was done outpatient at Proaliance surgery. Center. The whole care team was great - anesthesia and RN with excellent follow up the next day to be sure all was well and handle any questions. Great results from Dr. Hulst. I had two hip replacements done by him, one on each hip, 4 and 5 yrs. ago. Recovery time was minimal and painless. Following a short physical therapy regimen, I can declare my hips to be near perfect, rivaling the condition they were in when I was in my 20's. Surgery results were excellent, and I am able to function in a normal manner with no pain, or evidence of even having previous hip issues. I was fortunate to have Dr. Hulst as my orthopedic surgeon.
