I have been told by several doctors to consider this surgery, I was reluctant and had a fear of the unknowns! I met Dr. Patel, he explained the benefits of the procedure succinctly in just about two minutes. I had some questions, he took the time to answer each question with patience in a clear and professional way. His answers made it easy for me to decide for the surgery.He explained everything in detail prior to surgery, in a visit close to the time of the procedure. His staff is kind, sincere and professional. I met Dr Amit I. Patel in November 2023. I was quite nervous to meet him with already having built a trusting relationship with my other doctors.I came out of that first appointment with Dr Patel feeling at peace and ready for my hysterectomy.He is extremely kind. He took so much time answering every question that my husband and I had. He educated us on things we needed to know that we didn’t know to ask.During my exam he walked me through everything he was doing and why he was checking on things that he did. Dr Patel was very thorough.When I went back for my preoperative appointment, again he was the same, answered every question. Dr. Patel is caring, professional and knowledgeable. Concerned primarily with my urogynocoligical issues, his care extends to any health issue that relates to this or my general health and well-being. I am amazed at his expertise, how current he is with medical advances, and how much time he is willing to spend explaining things to me as a patient. He is gifted both surgically and verbally.I am 70 years old and have been seeing Dr. Patel for 3 years. When I first began to see him I soaked a minimum of 5 or 6 maxi pads a day and 2 or 3 at night. I wear no pads at all now, pea 3 or 4 times a day and at the present, once or twice at night. We are working on that. The night peeing seems to have something to do with my CPAP. His staff was warm, friendly, and professional on the phone and in person. His explanations were thorough, concise, and easy to understand and he answered all my questions. I visited 1 other urogynecologist and a gynecologist that both referred me to Dr. Amit Patel for surgery. I had a significant organ prolapse that resulted in a complete hysterectomy and surgical procedures to treat damage done as a result of the prolapse. (I believe it is called uterosacral or sacrospinous ligament suspension.) It was a 5-hour surgery for me. I had very minor cramps after surgery but on a scale of 1-10 I would rate around 2-3 (if that high). By the second day post, I was pain free and as I write this I am 6 days post-surgery with sill no pain. I was able to go home without a catheter and the only medication I have taken is ibuprofen which the Dr. wanted me to stay on for 2-weeks to treat inflammation. I feel wonderful and cannot believe I hesitated to do something that has really turned my life around. No longer do I feel the constant need to go to the restroom. I'm not sure that anyone goes to see Dr. Patel without an "embarrassing" problem. If you are brave enough to walk in the front door, I promise you he will make the rest an incredible experience. He spent so much time with me asking questions and making sure he really understood the entire problem. Then he ordered tests to make sure he got the right diagnosis, and worked with my other specialists to create a plan together. I have learned that you might wait a little while in lobby, but just remember that he is in there taking the time with someone that we all wish doctors would take - and that someone is about to be you. Dr. Patel gave me my life back. After 2 previous bladder mesh complication surgeries I was left with debilitating symptoms that made a normal life impossible. Correcting previous surgical issues is one of his most accomplished skills. He is meticulous, thorough, straightforward, and kind. All the best qualities that you want in a surgeon.
