If not for Dr Piston, I would not have the quality of life I have now. I have had 2 knee replacements and foot surgery. I can now walk 5 miles, exercise, lift weights; all without pain. What impressed me the most was the amount of time Dr. Piston spent with me to discuss my diagnosis of a frozen shoulder and what measures could be taken to get on the road to recovery. Dr. Piston has attended my husband for a wide variety of orthopedic complaints, needs, and surgeries over a span of over 35 years and for me, over 25 years. He is a master surgeon, caring, careful, and compassionate. However, what sets him apart from other good surgeons is his God-given ability as a diagnostician. He sees what other physicians miss. He saw the growth on my husband's spinal column that was missed by two other physicians, a growth that eventually would have caused a slow and painful death. Although the surgery for the growth was done by a neurological surgeon, Dr. Piston, without being required, is the one who has kept track of the results of that surgery through the years and continues to offer help with the nuances and pain resulting from it. In seeing to my orthopedic needs, you would think that as a surgeon, he'd be quick to do surgery, but he isn't. Time and again, he has offered the inserts for my shoes, practical advice, exercises, and Physical Therapy that has helped me avoid the impact surgery. When the time comes that I do need his services as a surgeon, I would not hesitate to schedule with him. He is a physician who enjoys his life work as a surgeon and is dedicated to serving his patients well. My most recent visits with him was for treatment of sciatic nerve back pain and an inability to lie down at night to sleep without my right arm and hand becoming numb. My first visit and I cannot be any happier. Dr piston provided me with a great first exam gave me confidence in him and his office staff. He sat down and took his time explaining my injury and what needed done moving forward in directing me to sports medicine professional in Pittsburgh. His staff and him are going to get me ready for knee surgery and then be ready to help me with therapy after the operation is done. I have an extreme injury to the ligaments in my knee. I am going to have a knee replacement in a year or so after I strengthen my replacement ligament and he will be doing that in the future. Awesome initial visit. I first saw Dr. Piston in 2014 for carpal tunnel. After explaining to me the problem with letting carpal tunnel go we decided that we would move forward with surgery. His staff is top notch. They are all very caring. Dennis was my therapist after, and it was so nice to know that I could go downstairs for therapy and upstairs to see the doctor. Little did I know that I would later have to have a fixator on the left arm, both my hips replaced, and a cadaver replacement on my knee over the last three years. Dr Piston has overseen all of my surgeries and care he never fails to tell you what you need, but never pushes you into a surgery , I am very grateful that he is such a wonderful surgeon and an upstanding Christian man. When I injured my shoulder I had to come home from where I live on the eastern shore to get his opinion on what I should do. He explained what was wrong and gave me a treatment plan to take home. I feel confident that I will get better. And he researched a physician that I can see in Maryland if the PT he recommended doesn’t do the job. We have not been to his office yet, my boyfriend has a horrible accident 2 days ago crushing his thumb and was admitted to sharon regional hospital .He was an emergency not scheduled surgery so we were anxiously waiting untill the next day for sugery hoping that some of his thumb could be saved. I can not say enough good things about him so far and I have never met any doctor like him.He spent at least 45 minutes with me and my boyfriend's parents explaining everything to him actually hugged us shared personal stories and made us feel heard and like he took extremely good care of our loved one here we found out he spent about 40 minutes talking to him before the surgery we are absolutely where we should have been this man is an angel. Dr. Piston operated on my son's hand on 9/26/17, one day after seeing him in the office. The break was the result of a football injury and Dr. Piston knew how important it was to my son that he get the injury repaired quickly. Dr. Piston met me in the waiting area and gave a very thorough explanation of the operation and how well everything had gone. When I later relayed this to my son I learned that Dr. Piston had very clearly explained everything to him as well. We have been going to the fitness section of Specialty Orthopaedics for many years and have always had a super experience. Being on the surgery and then therapy side was just as wonderful. My son was in very capable hands medically as well as personally. It was clear that Dr. Piston knew my son and was going to do everything he could to get him back on the field. Dr. Piston & his staff have been amazing in each of my surgeries. First was a total hip replacement (right hip) in 2015, then an elbow bursa sack removal in May of 2017 and most recently (9/7/17), my 2nd total hip replacement (left hip). In each procedure there were specific pre-op steps to help in the recovery period. Dr. Piston took the time to explain each step and what to expect post-op!! Overall, Dr. Piston and his team Exceeded Expectations on all fronts, including the amazing progress from the Physical Therapy team. I recently underwent hand surgery to fix a broken 4th metacarpel in my right hand. It was a spiral fracture and the bone was displaced. Dr. Piston explained the entire procedure to me, really making it clear to me what was happening. It made me feel like he was keeping me involved in the whole process. The surgery went well. Thanks to Dr. Piston's staff I was scheduled for surgery within two hours of my initial visit. Because he secured the broken radius with a lightweight external fixator, I have no problems whatsoever and after 8 weeks and another operation to remove the fixator and pins, my wrist will be perfectly straight and strong.
