Great experience with Dr. Ahmed and her staff. My surgery went very well even better than I ever could have expected. The post op visit went great and I left minus my stitches and with a walking boot. I live 3 hours away and believe me it was worth the trip. I would highly recommend Dr. Ahmed for any foot problems. I’ve had extreme pain and numbness since ankle fusion 3 yrs ago. That doctor basically said there was nothing he could do. I made an appointment with Ankle Orthopedic surgeon Dr Sonya Ahmed for a consult. She began with an EMG which found nerve damage. She performed a Tarsal Tunnel Decompression surgery. Dr Ahmed found scar tissue and severe nerve compressions which she fixed. Dr Ahmed has an outstanding bedside manner and the surgery process at Andrews Institute was the best surgical experience I have had. Dr Ahmed showed such empathy to the pain and discomfort I’ve had since breaking my ankle 4 years ago. I had to endure 2 surgeries for that break (the last one in 2020 resulted in ankle fusion). After the fusion I had numbness of toes and bottom of foot along with constant throbbing pain. Since my first visit with Dr Ahmed she continues to provide thorough compassionate treatment. She has true concern and empathy for what I’m feeling. Dr Ahmed wants to try some things that may provide long term relief from my ongoing pain. While in prep for my recent surgery, I overheard the prep nurses talking about the Doc's standards and the need for them to re-do one of their tasks because, as it currently was, was not up to her standards and they would certainly hear about it. I think that was a very big compliment to her and a confirmation to me that I had well chosen Doctor Ahmed as my Surgeon of choice. I had extensive foot reconstruction in June. Dr. Ahmed had to perform several different procedures during the 3.5 hour operation. I started wearing my right shoe again in September and have become increasingly more mobile. I am pleased with how much better I feel! Although I couldn’t drive or bear weight for about 7 weeks, the recovery process was smooth with minimal pain and no complications. There just aren't enough synonyms for fantastic to make my post original. I agree with every glowing and positive review of Dr. Ahmed. I have learned over the years that often the degree of pain after surgery is commensurate with the skill of the surgeon. After a bone graft and joint fusion of my husband's big toe (which we had been told by a relative was going to be a very painful recovery) he took exactly one pain pill and that was taken just to ensure he wouldn't experience pain during the first night post surgery. Not only is Dr.Ahmed an exceptional surgeon she is also a delightful person who listens, is easy to talk to and demonstrates such a caring spirit as to make an appointment with her an enjoyable experience. Wow!!! Dr. Ahmed and the staff at Nilssen Orthopedics are awesome! From the friendly people at the front desk to the in house imaging, and great physical therapy. This business is built to take care of patients. I was a little overwhelmed when the ER doc's said they would need to pin and plate a broken bone in my foot. It was very difficult to find a good foot doctor for a second opinion. The wait times were either excessive or the doctors reputations a bit questionable. Thanks to a good friend who's a nurse, recommended Dr. Ahmed. She had done her foot surgery, and she was very happy. So I get to see the doc in two business days, they x-ray my foot, she reviews it and says the nature of the break should heal well on its own. We can operate if we need too, but let's see how it does. 5 minutes to check in, 5 minutes for x-rays and 20 minutes face time with Dr. Ahmed. Now that's efficient. Nilssen Orthopedics is a lean and mean independent business. No corporate overhead telling doctors what to treat or how to treat it - just to make more money. Dr. Ahmed focuses on the patient and does whats best for you, not corporate. How refreshing. My foot healed fine on its own with her supervision. Their PT folks showed me what to do, and not do, to supplement a return to normal. At 61 years of age and a major auto immune disorder, surgery would have opened the door to all sorts of problems for me. I'm thankful to Dr. Ahmed and her folks for smart decisions and great care. I would not hesitate recommending Dr. Ahmed's services to anyone. I had a broken ankle that needed surgery, with a plate and six pens inserted for support to my bones. I was referred to Dr. Ahmed when I had broken my right ankle. As you can imagine my first appointment with her was an emergency and I was in pain. The type of brake that I had, Dr. Ahmed also had. She could relate to my discomfort (very compassionate), knew exactly how to repair the brake and explained the procedure (very knowledgeable), and made haste in scheduling me for surgery. I placed the upmost trust/respect in Dr. Amed. I know something about this after being hit by a car on my motorcycle, and it wiping out my leg and ankle. I've had maybe lost count 12-14 surgeries on my ankle including a STAR implant. Dr. Ahmed was nothing but exceptional! I had unfortunately suffered from a Jones fracture, which is a fracture on the 5th metatarsal and it required surgery. Dr. Ahmed gave every direction direct with that tough love sort of like a mom just looking out for you is how I felt. Dr Ahmed definately knows what she is doing and is so confident in her work. She replies fast to email and always gives you a response on what to do next. If anyone has any type of foot or ankle injury I would definitely recommend going to see her. Unbelievable!! She is nothing short of a walking miracle. She was amazing not only in surgery but my follow up as well. I was extremely lucky to have the opportunity to have her and her staff work on me. I would gladly explain my experience with anyone that has any doubts. I feel horrible cause I can't remember everyone on her crew. I believe one was Dr Dobson? He set my ankle. Amazing as well!! I'm drawing a blank on the third Dr that was on my surgery. Dr. Ahmed told me at the outset that she discovered early on that she had a "knack" for foot and ankle orthopedic issues. I found that she has more than that, she is close to being a miracle worker. She is very intuitive in her skill; combined with the science of her profession and a phenomenal dedication to her practice, she saved me from an amputation!
