This was my 6 weeks post op follow up visit, and during my visit with Dr. Ostrander, he reviewed with me how well my shoulder was healing from the surgery, and that I was progressing well. He explained to me about what to expect in the coming months as my shoulder continues to heal and what I can do to continue to improve and not hurt my healing progress. Dr. Ostrander is a great surgeon, he is very caring, he listens to me about what my concerns are and he explains in great detail of the surgery and healing process. I tore my hamstring off the bone with a retraction. I must say the whole entire team at Andrews is fantastic including the receptionist, surgery scheduler, surgical nurses, just top notch. Starting with Dr. Hackel and his brilliant experience of determining what I did to myself, to get me in the right direction. I heard nothing but outstanding comments about Dr Ostrander so I asked if he could do my surgery. The 2 doctors made it happen in a very short time since the injury was on a time crunch. Dr. Ostrander made sure i knew this was a long 6 month post op recovery with complications. Dr. O completed my surgery, he's merely a genius. The process of this surgery has ran so smoothly and pain free @ 7 weeks, especially for an elderly person of my age and medical issues. I suggested i needed a specific pt person for all my needs, he made that happen. I started pt, the pt guy is amazing, and he could not believe how well I was walking in just a short time. After being misdiagnosed with bursitis at another medical center, Dr. Ostrander took one look at my MRI and found a rotator cuff tear and bone spurs in my shoulder. Surgery was scheduled for a few months later, and everything went smoothly. Recovery was long and miserable (as he told me it would be), but one year later, my shoulder is better than 100%. I had an injury and had to have mri to find out if I had rotator cuff tear. I had swelling but not tear. Dr Ostrander gave me an injection and exercises to do for 6 weeks until follow up. Had my knee repaired by Dr Ostrander Dec 31, 2020 can’t say enough about the difference a great doctor makes. This makes the second knee repair I’ve gone thru with the same knee, and I’ve had my other knee worked on as well all do to my Army career. I had both knees repaired by civilian ortho doctors but none can hold a light to Dr Ostrander he listens and is very thorough surgeon. After my recent procedure I was off of pain meds by the second day and I was able to walk without crutches by day 4 and I was doing PT 3 days a Wk. Both of my previous procedures were to repair the same issue as what Dr Ostrander did but my recovery was a horrible experience. I couldn’t get in touch with the Dr to ask questions it took months for me to heal. Dr Ostrander and his team I called and I was able to get an answer right away my recovery has been fantastically short. It’s Jan 13 and I’m walking even better my limp is so slight that it will be gone by the time my PT is complete in 3wks. The whole process of being a new patient went very well. They sent paperwork via email a few weeks ahead of time. I was promptly seen at the appointment time. X-rays were taken in the office and the doctor examined me 30 minutes later. I had hurt my right shoulder 5 months prior and it was determined the best next step was a cortisone shot and daily stretching exercises. Wait about 3 weeks and if not better then a MRI would be the next step. The doctor was friendly and showed real concern for my situation. This was not our first trip to Andrews or Dr. Ostrander. This trip was to check on my son's shoulder, but Dr. Ostrander operated on his left knee 3 years ago because he had repeated issues with his patella dislocating. Dr. Ostrander, and his staff, have always been efficient, honest, and extremely personable and caring! When we decided we needed to go see someone, my first question was, “Does Dr. Ostrander do shoulders?” Once I knew the answer there was absolutely no question about where we were going, even though we are two hours from Andrews in Gulf Breeze. I had a severe tear that had atrophied along with a separated bicep due to my untimeliness in getting treatment. I had rotator cuff repair surgery by Dr. Ostrander in 2019. I seen them often on for my shoulder since 2016. The rotator cuff finally tore and he let me know that I needed surgery. Prior to that, he never once suggested surgery because I didn’t need it. So he isn’t surgery happy Which is reassuring. He has a very professional staff and he has a personable bedside manner. I just had the privilege of having my right shoulder orthopaedic condition evaluated by Dr. Roger Ostrander who is teamed up with renowned Dr. James Andrews (FL). I had total ACL and PCL reconstruction surgery by Dr. Ostrander six weeks ago. Surgery went very well and the recovery process has been smooth. I am forever grateful to Dr. Ostrander for his expertise and wisdom during surgery. He is extremely professional and his experience and knowledge proceed his reputation. His entire staff are more than kind and helpful and contribute to the positive atmosphere of the experience; be it a checkup or surgery. Over the course of my recovery, they have called me multiple times to ensure I was recovering well and went above and beyond to ensure I was taken care of. Had rotator cuff and some ligament tears. I felt very comfortable under Dr. O's care and his assessment of my situation. My operation was on 31 Oct 2017. This was my 2nd rotator cuff surgery with Dr. Ostrander! I had my right cuff fixed 2 years ago with Dr. O. My results were 100%! Just had my left rotator cuff repaired by him on May 29th and the recovery is going great! What a great surgeon and great experience I have had at the Andrews Institute! I live 6 1/2 hours away from Pensacola and made the drive twice for DR. Ostrander to fix my shoulders and I am glad I did! Dr O did my rt shoulder rotator repair late last year. I couldn't tuck in a shirt or throw. Still a bit tough to throw but but working through that and hopefully this will loosen up as well. I can swim without pain and do a vast majority of physical efforts that were tough to do before. Post op physical therapy essential but surgery so good PT reps amazed at flexibility only two days after operation. Thanks Dr. O! I am 67 but now 67 and active again.Patient Submitted Review

Absolutely the best orthopaedic surgeon in my opinion. Just had meniscus surgery 5 days ago and haven't used crutches since the third day. Have not needed a pain pill other than Aleve on first day of therapy. Back to driving and climbing stairs. He also did a rotator cuff repair several years ago and my recovery was very prompt and very low pain levels. He is my Orthopaedic surgeon and would have my highest recommendation.
