I did not appreciate the lack of education around autism spectrum disorder. I am not intellectually disabled and didn’t appreciate being told what an allergy was like a child. The student who came in the room was rude, she came in and said “do you think you have POTS because you think you have autism, or…?” It was very clear she didn’t believe me and thought something was funny because she was laughing. The reason why I mentioned ASD is because there is growing evidence of comorbidities between ASD, POTS, skin sensitivities, etc. I am diagnosed with ASD and my symptoms match the comorbidities. I asked about mycotoxins because of exposure to mold and the doctor wrote it off as “If you’d have fungus in the blood.” That’s not what I was asking about. Just a complete dismissal of all my symptoms. I’m not coming back and never mentioning my ASD to a doctor ever again.
