Dr. Riley Sotelo, M.D., was born and raised in the Riverside/San Bernardino area. She earned her undergraduate degree in neuroscience from the University of California, Riverside, and briefly worked as a construction site environmental inspector before returning to school to complete a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She then attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where she successfully completed a dual-degree M.D./M.P.H. program.
Dr. Sotelo chose to pursue her residency training at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) to be close to home and to access robust training in both obstetrics and gender-affirming care. Looking ahead, her goal is to become the go-to physician for LGBTQ-competent and, specifically, transgender-competent care in Southern California.
While she recognizes that the road through residency is demanding, she navigates the challenge by relying on the best piece of advice she ever received: to remember to be just as kind to herself as she is to others.
