Dr. Catherine Halinski has been a practicing Podiatric Physician for over 20 years in Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights IL. She received her BS and DPM from Wm. M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Halinski’s did her residency here in our wonderful city of Chicago. After residency, she started her practice in 1996 in a multi-specialty group, less than a mile from her childhood home in an effort to give back to the community where she was raised. Being exposed to a variety of diverse medical influences early in her career helped her to become the doctor she is today.
Interestingly, Dr. Halinski’s medical career began with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University, which she put to use as a published medical illustrator. This passion for drawing and then medicine was due to her collaboration with Dr. Weil, Sr. whose amazing work in the field inspired Dr. Halinski to pursue her interest in Podiatry as a doctor. After more than two decades in private practice, Dr. Halinski feels blessed and privileged to be a member of Weil Foot & Ankle Institute’s talented group of doctors.
Dr. Halinski relies upon her alternative and holistic training to find solutions for her patients’ foot and ankle problems by treating the body as a whole. She is especially inspired by the Myofascial Release (MFR) training which works as a soft tissue therapy; for pain relief, increasing range of motion, and balancing the whole body. Dr. Halinski firmly believes in the doctor’s creed, ‘do no harm’ and that people need to explore all conservative methods before surgery is done. Scar tissue from surgery and injury, even repetitive stresses, can sometimes cause more harm by limiting range of motion and cause pain not only to the foot but other areas of the body. Patients come to Arlington Heights, IL, podiatrist, Dr. Halinski seeking a second opinion instead of surgery or after other surgeries have failed them. Surgery may play an important role in a patient’s life, but exploring other non-surgical options, such as physical therapy or orthotics, etc., should be considered before surgery.
Dr. Halinski prides herself on being able to connect with her patients and give them personalized and conversational appointments. She takes a kind and gentle approach to caring for her patients. She always takes the time to discuss and educate patients about their conditions, trying to create the best recovery plan possible. Including the patient as part of a ‘team’ approach helps them to learn from the issue and can help prevent future injuries.
As the second certified Pinpointe Foot Laser provider in Illinois, Dr. Halinski is uniquely qualified to treat toenail fungus and warts for patients. She has dealt with nail fungus her entire career and has experience in options to help people with, ‘ugly toenails’. Dr. Halinski was on the advisory panel for new medications to help toenail fungus.
Dr. Halinski is a lifetime lover of all sports and greatly enjoys treating her patients’ sports injuries and watching them return to the games they love. She spends time explaining to patients about new ways to move their bodies from the feet up, so they can play smarter and healthier.
