Dr. Steven Kann is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in general arts and sciences. In 1990, he received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating summa cum laude (second in his class) and receiving the highest honor by being elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in his junior year of medical school. Dr. Kann completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Charles Sankey Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery. Following his residency, Dr. Kann completed his advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery and microsurgery at Cincinnati Hand Surgery Consultants. He is responsible for bringing minimally invasive techniques for carpal tunnel and trigger finger surgery to Western Pennsylvania. As an alternative to surgery, Dr. Kann also treats Dupuytren's Contracture (a disorder of the hand) with enzyme (Xiaflex) injections performed in our office.
Dr. Kann joined Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 1996. He has cared for Olympic athletes and professional baseball, hockey, football and tennis players, as well as tri-athletes, musicians, and professional golfers and bowlers. Dr. Kann also served as a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedics and Hand/Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In addition to his hand and upper extremity practice, he is available to evaluate and treat individuals with various orthopaedic and sports-related conditions. Dr. Kann is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has advanced Board Certification in the subspecialty of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery and has received a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Hand and Microsurgery. He is also a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr Kann one of the best Doctor in his profession, very courageous, kind & considerate.
I brought my 14 yo son, a hockey player, in for a broken hand. Dr. Kann explained everything so perfectly to my son and I. We understood what was wrong and how he was going to help it heal. The appointment was to the point but did not feel rushed. My son went in feeling discouraged and overwhelmed and left feeling optimistic. If I could rate Dr. Kann 10 stars, I would. If you’re a parent of an athlete, Tristate Orthopedics and Dr. Kann are your people!

Dr. Kann is an excellent physician for youth pitchers dealing with elbow injuries. We had been struggling with my son’s elbow issue for some time, and he provided a clear diagnosis and effective solution. His office also has a fantastic PA (Ryne Paige) who was a former pitcher, which made a big difference in understanding the mechanics and recovery process. We truly appreciate the thoughtful treatment plan and the additional exercises provided to strengthen and protect his elbow.
