Dr. Mark Langhans is a 1981 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame. In 1985, he received his Doctorate of Medicine from Northwestern University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society at the conclusion of his sophomore year. Following general surgery internship at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Langhans completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, serving as Chief Resident during his final year of training. He completed an advanced fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at The Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Langhans joined Tri-State Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in 1994. As a complement to his general orthopaedic, surgical and sports medicine practice, he served as an Orthopaedic Consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team for more than 8 years. He has performed hundreds of surgeries for Pittsburgh's professional, collegiate and high school athletes in almost every sport and athletic program and has worked with numerous major and minor league players. He currently serves as head team physician for the athletic program of North Allegheny School District. Dr. Langhans was named by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of the "Best Doctors in America" in 2019/20.

He earned the distinguished honor of being named to the UPMC Knee Joint Replacement Surgery Center of Excellence at UPMC Passavant Hospital by demonstrating rigorous quality measures with excellent outcomes and exceptional patient experiences.
Dr. Langhans is Board Certified in orthopaedic surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He maintains advanced subspecialty Board Certification in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has served as an invited participant in the standard setting exercise for the subspecialty Board Certification exam.
