Dr. Gerard Werries is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. In 1997, he received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
While at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Werries was honored to receive the "Excellence in Collaborative Learning" award. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Akron General Medical Center and his advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at Harvard Medical System, Departments of Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics. During his fellowship, Dr. Werries was also a Clinical Instructor in Orthopaedics at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Werries joined Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2003. He provides general orthopaedic care, but specializes in the evaluation and treatment of back and neck injuries and performs various minimally invasive procedures as well as complex spinal surgeries using advanced state-of-the-art equipment and techniques. Dr. Werries is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of both the American Medical Society and the North American Spine Society.

If this response section is character limited, then please call me. I’m a big fan of tri-state and have had wonderful experiences with Dr. kann, Dr Campbell and a shoulder doctor. Today’s visit with Dr Werries was a complete waste of my time. His consultation consisted of him showing me the X-ray, said I had some arthritis, which is normal and not new news to me. That I had some disc compression. He asked me to touch my toes. Asked if the Chiropractor I saw was just adjusting me or providing stretching recommendations . It’s the latter. He said you need to strengthen your core, do the stretches your chiro suggested. There was a single questionabout how the injury occurred, what limitations or pain I had/was experiencing. Didn’t ask me to move any particular way to see where the pain occurred. Did not ask what stretches the chiro suggested nor did Dr. Werries suggest any stretches for me. Again, complete waste of my time.
This gentleman is one of the best. Both surgeries he performed for me have healed quickly & with minimal pain.
He was very caring and did not rush and answered all my questions
Did not see Dr. Werries. Instead a PA or a young physician (not sure) came and spoke to me.
Competent, yes. Personable, no.
Dr. Werries was very attentive in listening to the pain issues I’ve been experiencing. He told me what his thoughts were that’s causing my pain and sending me for a test to confirm.
Super great Dr. Takes his time with patients & truly cares. Highly recommend him.
First time meeting him. Easy to talk to about symptoms. Went over z rays with me and then came up with a plan.
This was my first visit to Tri-State Orthopaedics. I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and the nurse who checked me in was friendly and efficient. I had contact with another nurse and a NP all of whom put me at ease. Dr. Werries was friendly but to the point. I was confident in his diagnosis and was happy with his treatment plan. I do recommend Dr. Werries based on my first visit.
He is professional and personable. I was suffering from sciatica and he was able to perform the surgery I needed to relieve that pain. In my opinion. He is awesome.
