Katie Gatewood, PA-C

Katie Gatewood, PA-C, is a physician assistant at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) in Zachary.

Gatewood earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and completed post-baccalaureate studies in integrative biology at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and in biological sciences at South College in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she also received her Master of Health Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies. She went on to earn her Doctor of Medical Science at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

Her clinical experience includes cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, and psychiatry.

Before joining CIS, she worked in Covington as a rehabilitation technician at St. Tammany Parish Hospital and as a behavioral health technician in senior behavioral health at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

Gatewood is a board-certified physician assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and holds additional certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Associates and the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants.

She has contributed to academic research and publications and demonstrated leadership through volunteer initiatives and student organizations. Her efforts have been recognized with honors such as the Emerging Student Leader award at LSU, reflecting her commitment to service, leadership, and advancing patient care.
