I am providing feedback about a concerning communication issue during my recent visit. I attempted to discuss a post-operative pain management mismatch for future surgical planning. When I stated that I take 30mg of oxycodone daily, I was interrupted with “I know,” and the tone shifted.
After explaining I wanted the discrepancy documented, I was told, “I am not going to give you more narcotics.” I restated that this was not what I was asking for, to which she replied, “Well, then what do you want?” I repeated that I was requesting documentation.
Assumptions were made, and I had to repeat myself multiple times. The interaction was dismissive and accusatory, and impacted my ability to communicate an important aspect of my care. I tried to proactively prevent a repeat of a challenging situation for my next surgery. I would have appreciated the opportunity to do that before assumptions were made.

She talked to us for a few minutes, very rushed. Could have had better bedside manner.
