Following medical school, Dr. Joseph completed 5 rigorous years of orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Stony Brook - Long Island's busiest level 1 trauma center. During that time, he helped design a novel trauma protocol for geriatric hip fractures, which helped reduce the hospital's mortality rate in this subset of patients. He has also completed subspecialty training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (the nation's first sports medicine fellowship), receiving a distinction in research for a study on ACL surgery.
Competitive athletics was a big part of Dr. Ben Joseph's upbringing, so he understands how upsetting and derailing an injury can be to any athlete. Consequently, he takes great pride in providing exceptional and comprehensive surgical and nonsurgical care with a personalized approach tailored to each patient's unique goals. In addition, he believes that educating the patient about their injuries and encouraging them to participate actively in their treatment decisions helps them return to their pre-injury performance level.
Over the years, Dr. Joseph has served as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets, the Stony Brook Seawolves, the Manhattanville Valiants, and numerous local high school athletic programs in New York. Additionally, he played lacrosse for many years in his spare time and is now an avid snowboarder.

Very professional and knowledgeable
This doctor didn't care to see me or examine me. His protocol is to take X-rays without even seeing the patient first. Since I refuse to do that, my appointment was cancelled and I was sent home.
Dr. Joseph listens to all your concerns, explains everything to you very concerned and has a wonderful bedside manner
I felt comfortable as soon as he walked into the room and spoke his first words Did and said everything I needed and wanted to know. Put me on the path I wanted with what I need to start feeling better Very smooth first time visit. Thank you. I felt better already walking out the door. Quick follow up appointment also. Nice.
He was very professional and spoke in simple language pertaining to my health that was easily understood.
Very good doctor listened to me efficiently and advised me correctly. Physical therapy was great for healing process.

Yes, I made an appointment a few weeks ago with Dr. Joseph. When I arrived for the appointment, and after a 45-minute wait, another doctor came into the room and told me that Dr. Joseph was not in the office! I was very disappointed and upset that your office never bothered to call me to advise me that the doctor would not be in the office today. The lay who signed me in today for my appointment with Dr. Joseph didnbother to tell me that he wasn't in the office, and she just laughed when I mentioned it to her before I left. This office extends no courtesies to patients. They schedule appointments for you, and maybe you will see your doctor 1 to 2-1/2 hours past your appointment time. I left my appointment with Dr. Kendya the first time I saw him because I waited almost 2-1/2 hours to see him, and I was in pain. The scheduling at Total Orthopedics is horrible and very inconsiderate to patients.
