Dr. Samuel D. Hobbs, MD, Maj, USAF, MC, is a specialist in macula, retina, and vitreous disorders. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude. He completed a general surgery internship at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the same institution in conjunction with Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Dr. Hobbs further specialized with a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is also a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. His honors include the American Society of Retina Specialists Master Contributor Award, the UCLA Fellowship Teaching Award, membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and the Air Force Commendation Medal for Outstanding Achievement.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Hobbs enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. An Eagle Scout, he plays both the viola and guitar, is passionate about teaching and academics, and remains active in his church. He also spent two years as a missionary in northern Chile and is fluent in Spanish.
