Dr. Matthew Lippas is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the retina at Sweeney Eye Associates. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M in 1979, he obtained his Medical Degree from the UT Health Science Center at Houston in 1983. Dr. Lippas continued his medical journey with an internship in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 1984, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at UTHSC Southwestern Medical School from 1984 to 1987. Furthering his expertise, Dr. Lippas completed a two-year retinal fellowship at the Vitreo Retinal Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee in 1994.
With nearly 30 years of private practice experience, he now specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical retina conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion, retinal tears, and macular edema. Dr. Lippas’ dedication to providing exceptional care ensures that patients receive personalized treatment strategies aimed at preserving and enhancing their vision and overall quality of life.

Dr Lippas was very professional and answered all my questions. His expertise is evident . I would have rated 5 stars if it was clear that Dr Lippas had washed or disinfected his hands before the exam .

Dr Lippas listened to me, then asked clarifying questions. He examined my eyes and then discussed with me what he found, answering questions as we went. He told me the options for treatment, then told me what he recommended and why. I left feeling confident with his treatment.
Dr Lippas is a physician who truly CARES for his patients. I have experienced him going way out of his x way to stay in touch on a weekly basis when my retina was dis-attaching. You will seldom find a physician who cares more about his patients than he does himself!
He explained fully my issues and gave me direction for the future. He answered any questions I had before I had to ask them. Great all the way around.
