Originally from Madison, WI, Dr. Stewart completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in molecular biology. She then graduated with research honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. She completed her internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI and her residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Stewart completed her fellowship with the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for oculoplastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic/the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Stewart has received many honors, awards and research grants throughout the course of her education, including the Marck Gichert Memorial Award in the Neurosciences from UW-Madison and the Michigan Ophthalmology Trainee Career Development Award. She was also chosen for the American Association of Neurological Surgeon Medical Student Research Fellowship while in medical school.
Dr. Stewart is board certified in ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a candidate member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She has authored numerous book chapters and abstracts/publications and presented at several national conferences, and she currently serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports.
In her free time, Dr. Stewart enjoys spending time with her husband and two little ones, downhill skiing, yoga and cooking with family and friends. She was also a professional violinist for years before going to medical school.
