Kari Fossum, M.D., is a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist and adult strabismus specialist joining Northwest Eye. Dr. Fossum earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and minored in both Global Health and European Studies. She went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in general surgery and residency in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was recognized with the Resident Benchmark Award for Exemplary Clinical and Surgical Care. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Michigan.
With a passion for advancing the field, Dr. Fossum has authored peer-reviewed publications in Ophthalmology and Journal of AAPOS and presented research at national meetings, including the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), where she received the Best in Show Poster Award. Her research interests include pediatric ophthalmology screening, strabismus, and surgical outcomes.
Dr. Fossum is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She is excited to partner with patients and families to help them achieve their best possible vision and quality of life.

Very thorough and professional
Compared with other two female eye doctors in the same clinic, this one is far less than what I expected. Our appointment time was messed up and I felt the time was rushed after being rescheduled for later time. Not a very detailed provider and now I know I won’t choose any provider just because of the availability.
Dr. Fossum very informative and confident. She also took the time to make sure we had all our questions answered.
Listened to my concerns, and explained everything. She was very nice.
Very patient with my child who is autistic and has developmental delays. I appreciate her for everything she did for our family today as well as her nurse Vanessa
