Dr. Joseph Chen MD is a board-certified Glaucoma Specialist who specializes in laser assisted and premium cataract surgery as well as the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. He graduated from Stanford University in 2004 and went on to receive his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, one of the top 10 medical schools in the country. He then completed his Ophthalmology residency training at Baylor College of Medicine and went on to complete a glaucoma fellowship program at the renowned Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah, training with the late Alan Crandall, the world-famous glaucoma and cataract surgeon. Dr. Chen has been practicing in the Ventura County area since he completed his fellowship in 2014 and is excited to join the DLV team.
Dr. Chen’s specialty skills include laser assisted cataract surgery and the implantation of premium intraocular lenses. He has a particular interest in cutting edge surgical and laser management of glaucoma, including the newest minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, Xen implants, trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage implants, and cyclophotocoagulation procedures. He is happy to share his expertise in glaucoma and cataract care with the Ventura County community.
When not improving patient’s vision, Dr. Chen enjoys hiking, swing dance, and improvisation piano, as well as spending time with his wife and two daughters.

At age 93 and with very poor eyesight I would appreciate at the end of my appointmentS a SLOW SPOKEN SUMMARY / RECAP OF THE TESTS COMPLETED THIS DAY AND RECOMMENDATIONS AND NEXT STEPS GOING FORWARD. I NEEDED TO STOP DR CHAN FROM LEAVING TO QUICKLY AND BEFORE GIVING ME FEEDBACK AND RECOMMENDATIONS GOING FORWARD. i was vey pleased with Dr Chen, his Staff and thIs first visit. Excelente doctor
As I was sitting down in a chair in the first room, I put my right arm on the arm of the chair. This arm broke and I was half way to the floor when I got my balance and lifted myself up. Dr.Chen and his assistant witnessed this and voiced their concern. I was okay but someone else might have landed on the floor and injured themselves. Please fix this problem so it does not happen again in the future.
Dr Chen is conscientious and friendly. I feel very comfortable with him.
