Melissa was inspired to pursue medicine through her work at Medical Outreach Service, a free nursing clinic on South 13th Street in Harrisburg, where she witnessed the transformative power of accessible, compassionate care. She is passionate about health literacy, shared decision-making, and delivering culturally competent, holistic care that empowers patients to take an active role in their health.
Originally from western Pennsylvania, Melissa has lived, worked, and studied throughout eastern and central Pennsylvania since 1997. Outside of medicine, she enjoys quilting, sewing, and hiking—hobbies she looks forward to returning to regularly. A former police officer of 20 years, Melissa brings a unique perspective on service, resilience, and community to her clinical practice.
Melissa and her husband enjoy spending time with their grown son, Malachi, his wife, Angela, and their grandchildren, Bennett and Audrey. Their home is happily shared with two Labrador Retrievers and two Doberman Pinschers.
Melissa remains deeply committed to community health and continues providing weekly care at Healthy on The Hill—a project she helped bring to life more than a decade in the making. The clinic celebrates its second anniversary of free patient care on January 3, 2026.
