Both my mother and I needed preventive colonoscopy screenings. My mother has a history of colon cancer and requires screening every five years, and I also require screening every five years due to my family history. I understand that because these were preventive screenings rather than diagnostic visits, there may be limited discussion required.
The in-person appointment itself was very brief and did not involve any new questions or assessments, as I had already completed the required questionnaire prior to our arrival. The interaction with the nurse lasted less than five minutes for both of us combined.
Given the nature of this visit, I believe it would be more appropriate and convenient to offer this type of pre-screening appointment via telehealth. I currently have a 9-month-old baby and am breastfeeding. Because both my mother and I had appointments, I had to bring my baby with us, which was quite challenging.
