Darsey Fortun, DNP, FNP-C, is a nurse practitioner who grew up in Kernersville, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where she developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care. After gaining clinical experience, she returned to UNCW to further her education and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), expanding her clinical knowledge.
Before joining OrthoNC, she worked as a registered nurse on a combined neurology and neurosurgery unit at UNC for nearly seven years. In this role, she cared for patients with complex neurological and postoperative needs, serving as a strong advocate for patients and families while developing the clinical judgment and communication skills essential to her role as a nurse practitioner.
She is board-certified as a Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Outside of work, she enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. In her free time, she can often be found hiking with her husband and their dog, golfing, and enjoying time with family and friends.

This was a return trip from Friday because I was having severe swelling in my right knee from a fall. It was previously diagnosed as a possible fracture of my tibia and nothing was checked out initially with my knee and they scheduled me for a Cat Scan.Darsey very thoroughly checked out my issues with my knee where I had the swelling and pain and explained how I might have damage to the tendons also and recommended an MRI which she put in a stat order so that I can hopefully get it done tomorrow. Lol she also gave me 2 shots in the butt to relieve the swelling, pain and inflammation and also gave me a prescription to help with the pain and swelling. She was very professional in how she explained all of the tendons and ligaments in a way that was easy for me to understand. It was nice to see her and the rest of the staff there treat me in a very courteous and professional manner.
