While she has been a practicing nurse-midwife for over 20 years, Joanie is delighted to be the “new” midwife in the County Ob/Gyn family! Originally from Ohio, Joanie attended Oberlin college, graduating with a BA in Psychology and a minor in French. A brief time at Planned Parenthood fueled her interest in women’s health and propelled her to midwifery school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. There she completed her Bachelor’s in Nursing, as well as a Master’s of Science in Nursing and a certification in Midwifery in 1996.
In 2000, Joanie moved to the New Haven area with her family. Ever since, she has enjoyed practicing full-scope midwifery; providing care to women from adolescence through menopause. She loves catching babies, providing prenatal care, routine GYN and contraceptive care. She also has a special interest in LGBTQ issues.
Joanie lives in Hamden with her husband Dan, her 2 cats Teddy and Bea, and periodically with her college age kids, Adele and Henry. When not in the office or on the labor floor, Joanie can be found exercising, reading, singing in her local choir, attempting to grow vegetables, or plotting a musical theater project.
She’s amazing that sums it up in one word.
For a very nervous and anxious person, Joanie was wonderful and a calming presence. I definitely felt comfortable with her and appreciated all the tidbits and advice she gave me.
I love Joanie! She’s the best GYN! Personal and genuine!
Lovely woman. Very kind and competent. I’ll be back to see her!!
She was absolutely incredible !!
So compassionate during a difficult time, she had a wonderful bedside manner and answered all my questions
The kindest!! She listened to all of my concerns and answered them with the utmost caring manner. Loved her!
Friendly, professional, knowledgeable. Answers and addresses questions. I just like her.
Not a good experience. Very judgmental towards decisions the patient wants and tries to sway you towards her opinion. Did not feel comfortable with her at all.
Very calm, friendly, and informative.
