Founded in 1975 through a special act of the 62nd Texas Legislature, Starr County Memorial Hospital was established under the leadership of Dr. Mario E. Ramirez. It is licensed by the State of Texas and accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). SCMH is a 48-bed acute-care facility offering a wide range of services, including medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, outpatient, and ambulance care. It holds a Level 4 Trauma Certification and operates two Rural Health Clinics.
