A native of the San Francisco Bay area, Dr. Kim graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, with a B.A. in biochemistry and a minor in studio art. After college, she taught English in Hong Kong under a Fulbright scholarship, then volunteered as a coordinator and English teacher to Burmese refugees in Thailand.
During her time abroad, Dr. Kim became passionate about global health issues and decided to pursue a dual degree in public health and medicine at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Touro University California.
Dr. Kim completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), a Level II trauma center with the second busiest emergency room in California. It was at ARMC that she developed interests for eye trauma, reconstruction, and complex cases. She went on to successfully complete a fellowship, further specializing in eyelid repair and reconstruction, with Central Valley Eye Medical Group in Stockton, California.
Eyelid Surgery - Ocala Eye“As a medical student, I fell in love with ophthalmology first because of the eye’s beautiful anatomy and the ability to physically visualize pathology. I found the eyelids to be fascinating in their anatomy, and function in preserving vision, but also in their capacity to heal and affect someone’s self-identity. I have always been interested in art, and operating on the lids is really like an art form. Just like the stroke of a pen or brush can alter the appearance and tone of a picture, the placement of a stitch or cut can alter that of the lids. It’s truly the greatest privilege to be able to make a meaningful difference for someone by doing what I absolutely love,” says Dr. Kim.
Dr. Kim is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology, American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the Florida Medical Association.
Outside of work, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with her husband, German Shepherd, Obie and charming miniature dachshund, Ollie. For leisure, she enjoys art, travel, and new cuisines. She also has a passion for medical missions and outreach and has had the privilege to serve in the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, and Guatemala.
