Dr. Salma Akter, M.D., is a board-certified cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. She is fellowship-trained in Cardiovascular Disease (SUNY Downstate Medical Center) and Cardiac Electrophysiology (NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital). She earned her medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 2008 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Dr. Salma Akter, M.D., is a board-certified cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care for a wide range of heart conditions. Originally from Bangladesh and raised in New York City, Dr. Akter earned her undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology before completing her Doctor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 2008.
She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Akter then pursued advanced fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, finishing in 2016.
With nearly a decade of experience in clinical cardiology in Upstate New York, Dr. Akter provides expert care for a full spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart valve disorders, heart failure, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, tachyarrhythmia, and bradyarrhythmia. Her clinical interests include arrhythmia management, preventive cardiology, and women’s heart health.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Akter enjoys spending time with her husband and family, exercising, traveling, and reading. She is fluent in English and Bengali.
