Kristin Buterbaugh, M.D.

Dr. Kristin L. Buterbaugh is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery, from shoulder to fingertips, in adults and children. She is trained in arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand along with microvascular surgery. Dr. Buterbaugh works with each of her patients to develop a collaborative treatment plan to address their individual goals.

Dr. Buterbaugh was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in the North Hills. She completed her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in American Studies. Following college, she was awarded a Gates Cambridge scholarship by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and earned an MPhil in the History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University in England, graduating with Distinction. She attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY where she graduated with honors. During her time in medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Gold humanism award.

Dr. Buterbaugh completed her Orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. During her residency, she participated in multiple research projects, presented at national meetings, and served as the administrative chief resident. Additionally, she traveled to the Dominican Republic to serve as a medical volunteer in orthopaedic surgery. Following residency, she completed fellowship training at the famed Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, where she pursued additional training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery under the mentorship of Dr. William B. Kleinman, Dr. Tom Fischer, and Dr. Jeffrey Greenberg.

Dr. Buterbaugh specializes in peripheral nerve surgery, arthritis surgery, traumatic conditions, and upper extremity reconstruction. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, trying new restaurants in Pittsburgh, and cheering on the Steelers.
