Zac Doegg, M.D., stays on the go. He lives in what he describes as an “active house” in Savannah, a place where he and his family, including their rambunctious pets, are never sitting down and are “always doing something.”

His preference for a bustling environment makes sense. As a primary care physician, Dr. Doegg chose a dynamic profession, one that calls for constantly adapting to a wide range of patient needs, evolving medical knowledge, and changes in healthcare systems and technology.

And he loves it.

Dr. Doegg obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership in Athens, Georgia. Followed by his residency at UAB Hospital Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I really appreciate all of the different aspects of primary care,” he explains. “You’re able to treat chronic issues as well as provide preventative and maintenance care, and all points in between. It’s both proactive and reactive.”

Additionally, Dr. Doegg says he’s grateful for the opportunity to provide comprehensive, long-term healthcare and build strong relationships with patients in the process. While successfully treating a patient continues to remain gratifying, he says the privilege of being there when someone needs you most feels equally important.

“When a patient really needs to talk to someone, I get the opportunity to help them come to terms, understand, or process an illness a little bit better,” he says. “Guiding them through tough situations is always rewarding.”

Coordinating a patient’s overall care means referring them to specailists when necessary. Being part of the SouthCoast Health team allows Dr. Doegg the ability to refer and collaborate with a variety of highly regarded specialists, which heightens a patient’s continuity of care.

“SouthCoast provides a solid framework, a strong foundation, and fantastic provider-to-provider support,” explains Dr. Doegg. “Simply put, we’re all able to work together for the betterment of the patient.”

A medical school graduate of the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership in Athens, Georgia, Dr. Doegg enjoys cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs during college football season. He contributes to his “active house” by exercising, grilling meals on his Big Green Egg, taking wildlife photographs, and taking nature walks with his wife and children.
