Dr. Zachary Burns, M.D., was born and raised in Pinson, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama and Samford University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Studies, and went on to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy from Samford’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy, where he served as Class President. He then obtained his medical degree from the UAB School of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He completed his urologic surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, serving as a chief resident. During his training, he received multiple clinical and leadership awards in recognition of his contributions to the department.
Dr. Burns’ training includes kidney stone disease, vasectomy, male and female urinary dysfunction, urinary incontinence, complex genitourinary reconstruction and prosthetics, advanced robotic surgery using the da Vinci platform, and the management of urologic cancers, with a focus on prostate, kidney, and bladder malignancies. His research interests include reconstructive urology, kidney stone disease, and urologic oncology, with publications in each of these areas.
Dr. Burns serves on the Young Advisory Board of the Mike Slive Foundation, supporting prostate cancer awareness and education. He is also a member of the American Urological Association.
Dr. Burns and his wife, Taylor, have one daughter. In his free time, he enjoys fly fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
