Yashbir Mehta MD

After finishing medical school from the University of Panjab, I came to Vancouver, Canada where I finished my internship at the University of British Columbia, followed by 2 years of Internal Medicine residency at the University of Ottawa, Canada.

I started my general radiology training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and finished my radiation oncology training at Rush Medical College. I became an attending in radiation oncology at Rush Medical College followed by 7 years as attending staff at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, in the department of radiation oncology. I was appointed director of radiation oncology at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago for 7 years.

In 1983 I opened my own freestanding radiation oncology center in Waukegan, the first in the state of Illinois. In 199a I opened another freestanding radiation oncology center at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL and in 2003, after closing my Waukegan radiation center, I opened a brand new, state of the art facility in Gurnee, IL, where I still continue working and as of September 2019, with UroPartners.

I am board certified in radiology and radiation oncology. I specialize not only in treating prostate cancer, but also other cancers like breast cancer, lung cancer, and head & neck cancers.

I have taken special training in brachytherapy in Seattle for prostate cancer and for head & neck cancers. I specialize in IMRT, IGRT, and stereotactic radiation.

We also opened a gamma knife center in Gurnee in collaboration with our neurosurgeon, Dr. Tomas Helenoski.

I love the field of radiation oncology and it gives me great pleasure to take care of cancer patients and their families. The field of radiation oncology is very satisfying for me, so much so, that my son, Neil Mehta, M.D., has followed in my footsteps to become a radiation oncologist. He is also working with UroPartners and with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

In my spare time I enjoy golfing, traveling with my wife, and reading.
