He took the time to understand my pain. He also explained the “why” of my pain. Which confirmed what most doctors had already told me. The one thing he DID do that no one else has done was acknowledge my pain. Unfortunately, healthcare in this country is extremely inefficient. Now onto an MRI ( which we all know takes WEEKS) to get an appointment. Then another 3-4 weeks to get an appointment to OVER the results followed by more than eels for an ACTION to be created. So 3-4 months into this I MIGHT just get a solution to my pain. How is this OKAY! Acupuncture and a good chiropractor might be better AND less expensive. Immediate results.

He even seemed to use and appreciate a Log/Timeline I had created to help show all the things my husband had tried to improve his back situation. Some doctors might have tossed that aside. Dr Sutherland always takes the time to listen. And we are making progress in pinpointing my real problem.

If anything could have been improved it would have been the earlier recommendation that surgery was necessary due to the significant damage in the spinal column that could not be remedied by pain medication or epidurals. This might have reduced my months long significant pain. The operation seems to be very successful and my pain is greatly reduced.

I appreciated that Dr. Sutherland listened to what I had to say about my hip injury and did not just stare at the x-ray. He was not in any rush to push me toward invasive treatment.

Dr southerland is berry professional and kind. He is an amazing surgeon. I just wish insurance company’s didn’t dictate time spent with patients and procedures. Although my surgery was a success. I went in today because I’m getting symptoms on the other side. He was with me 10 min. He didn’t order an X-ray or examine my hip or back. He checked reflexes had me walk around and did “strength” test. But when I asked what else I can do for the weakness and symptoms he said I could get a cortisone shot. No physical therapy no suggestions on pain control. I believe this is because he is scheduled out every ten minutes! How can you properly examine someone in 10 min?

Dr. Sutherland is excellent. Your systems supporting him are terrible. I signed in online (which took quite a bit of time) and then had to stand in a line for 15 minutes to check-in upon arrival. I asked if I could just skip the line since I had checked in online. The answer was an annoyed, “No.” Everyone in line was baffled by the wait time. The person in front of me were told his appointment had been rescheduled. He said: “No one informed me.” The staff person was super nice but your system is a disservice to your clients. Thank goodness the staff and doctors are great. They also deserve better in terms of support.

I felt heard going to him, and he was very kind. He couldn’t help me get the imaging I was hoping to get, and I left a discouraged and kind of at another dead end. But I can understand as it seems my issue is more likely neurological/systemic than orthopedic. Thankfully he ordered some investigational labs while I wait months for other specialists to have availability. Very nice of him. His MA was also a cut above the rest. Loved her.

He answered all my questions, scheduled me for Tuesday surgery. He is conservative in offering surgery which is rare in my case it is needed. Praying it will work. He upped my appointment from September 23 . And saw me early and got me in.

Dr. Sutherland is one of the best orthopedic doctors I have ever seen. He is thorough and takes the time to explain everything that is going on and asks if I have any questions. He takes the time that a person needs to understand what is wrong with them. I would recommend him to any family member or friend.
