William Stevens, M.D.

Dr Stevens is an EXCELLENT surgeon! He and his staff provided me with great concern and care for my back surgery!

He is direct and kind. I picked him for his expertise and education. I do not need someone with a bedside manner, but he does seem to have that. I want the best and I have confidence that he is the best.

He speaks extremely soft and can be difficult to understand.

It would have been more helpful if the doctor had gone into some level of details and offer some explanation to my problem. When I asked questions, I felt like I was stalling or keeping the doctor from moving on. The truth is I didn't get a overall picture why my back problem occured, why it was not a big concern and how it fits in the overall spectrum of back problems. Also, the doctor seemed unaware of how and when my problem started which I had provided in the long Questionary form before I was even seen by his assistant several weeks ago. The doctor is a nice person, but seemed uninterested in offering medical advice.

I felt like he was late for some other appointment. If I tried to ask a question, he'd cut me off and say "it's due to the arthritis. I wanted a cortizone shot - but he said I had to take a weeks medicine, go to therapy, get an MRI, then go to Pain Management, who would give me a cortizone shot.

Not sure if I want him to operate on me. By listening to his recordings, You need to feel comfortable with your doctor and trust in them. Well I felt very uncomfortable. Had a rough voice and did not like it all.

I think Dr. Stevens is a great doctor. I have had not 1 but 2 neck surgeries that Dr. Stevens did. If I didn’t trust or think he wasn’t a great doctor I sure would never had had the 2nd surgery with him.

This was my first appointment with Ortho Arizona. After waiting 3 weeks for the appt. and over 30 min. to get in once I arrived, I found the first 2 nurses who came in to be helpful but they both advised that I save all information and questions for the Dr. since he would go over my MRI and decide on treatment etc. When he finally came in , it took him less than 10 min to tell me he was a spine specialist and it sounded like I needed a shoulder specialist so there was nothing he could do. He said he would give me a referral to yet another Orthopedic surgeon he knew, however he walked out and did not do so. This was a complete waste of my time and money after driving across town for the appointment.

A tough day for the Dr. I was last but he took the time to go over the solution for me.

Didn't seem like anyone was listening to my issues. Saw the Dr. for about 2 minutes and had waiting to see him for an hour and a half. He did not even touch my back or look at my back. He gave me prescription for physical therapy. I had waited for the appt for a few weeks and left more lost than when I had arrived. Poor bedside manner.

Came to him with hip pain from a skateboarding accident a year ago. He focused on my neck instead. Sent me to PR for my neck… Came back again for hips and said to me “this should be happening to you at 55, not 35… are you a tobacco user?” And proceeded to blame my inability to walk over a mile on me smoking cigarettes…. Never addressed my pain whatsoever. Wonderful receptionists though!!!

Horrible. Unprofessional office staff. PA, Amy was rude and condescending. Dr Stevens refused to see me. saying it was because I was late even though I was still early to my 3:15pm appointment. It took me 3 1/2 months to get this appointment just to be told what I already knew and to not even see the Dr. It was a waste of time. Amy had me in tears sobbing and her attitude was nothing short of a high school bully. She threatened to call security on me because I was upset about them playing games with my appointment. I will post a more thorough review on google and other platforms.

He seemed irritated/agitated not sure if it was at me. I had to ask him to look at the x-rays he may have spent 10 seconds doing that. I have no idea what’s wrong with my back or neck and I guess he’s not interested in looking at that until I go to physical therapy. I’m not exactly sure what to do at this point but I’m probably going to seek another doctors opinion.

Dr. Stevens came highly recommended to me, and he lived up to that recommendation. He is a very dedicated and compassionate surgeon. I am so happy that I had my spinal surgery done by Dr. Stevens. Now I can live a pain-free live thanks to him.

Dr. S is the ONLY PHYSICIAN I trust with my spine revisions and care. I moved back to Arizona so he could be my surgeon again. He did 8 lumbar revisions in 1999-2000. In 20 years of moving and searching I have not found another surgeon who is as HONEST & REAL as Dr. Stevens

Dr. Stevens didn't seem very happy to see me. Maybe he was having a bad day. No breaking the ice, no getting to know you, no friendly small talk. But VERY quick to let me know my mask was not covering my nose!

Find Dr Stevens is the best thing that ever happened to me. Lower back issues forced me into surgery, fifteen years and counting. I have been back on my bike and back to the pool. I literally left there in tears because I waited 2 months to see him and then was treated like I did something wrong. Apparently there must have been a lapse in communication from time of scheduling because he wanted to see an MRI I had from the car accident 3 years ago that was taken by ER but that I didnt have. Didnt know I was supposed to have it. They did their own xray, talked to PA as she walked through some exercises and then he came in for 2 mins tops and spent most of the time chastizing me for not having the images. Spent zero time asking about my symptoms, what I thought is wrong, what daily life is like for me trying to modify my life and cope living with this injury. He said "well, your xray doesnt show anything that needs surgery at the moment" and then went on to express his desire to see an MRI I dont have. I left confused, angry, feel like myself and Aetna will be wasting money on absolutely nothing! SimonMed called to schedule MRI and I was so upset I couldnt speak...

I wanted help with my back pain and I was lectured about my weight and was told physical therapy and pain management. Saw this doc maybe 5 minutes. Rest of time some assistant doc never even examined me. What a joke and a waste of money. Would love to get my co pay back.

Dr Stevens has performed numereous surgeries on my back, and I wouldn't let anyone else work on it.

Unfortunately I had a rather disappointing experience on my visit visit. Dr Stevens walked into the room and announce he was in a bad mood today because his knee hurt. Then said I had arthritis in my neck. Gave no explanation even after i asked what was different between x-rays I had taken last November and now. Did not show X-rays or models to indicate his findings. Told I needed PT.. Honestly he made me feel like I was wasting his time since I was not a candidate for surgery. So at least there is that, Hope their PT department is more helpful. Hope Dr Stevens is able to take care of his knee.

Great Doctor

During my first visit to Dr. Stevens, he and Amy were very informative and provided me with detailed explanations. This visit with Dr. Stevens left me in tears, feeling defeated and humiliated. Dr. Stevens continually cut me off when I was trying to ask a question or explain myself. He showed a complete lack of empathy and compassion for me as a patient who was simply trying to seek assistance from a medical professional. After my initial visit I referred two of my relatives to Dr. Stevens. I now regret having done that if this is the manner in which they will be treated.

Dr. Stevens is great, a very smart man with a good attitude. It's nice to have a doctor that will take a minute to make some small talk. I wish I could hire staff like his. Every in the office is very friendly. And the surgery went well too.

Dr Stevens bed side manner was extremely rude, condescending, and every time I tried to ask questions for a better understanding, he appeared to get annoyed. I clearly have back issues in addition to a slipped disk. He sent me home with a script of "take two Tylenol and I'll see you in 6weeks". My recommendation, find another doctor.

U for my Masters waI came to him as an senior man(75) to get evaluation of spine prblems and other arthritis related problems-The first item he brought up was I was 120lbs over weight-I am a senior citizen not a full bac at USC in his weight lecture I brought up the fact that he did not consider Genetics-as a student ofGerontologyu I felt hisevaluationwasvery biased against older Americans(my minor at ASU for my Masters degree was Gerontology) Telling people over 60 they are overweight is rather a strange thing coming from a Orthopedict DR. losing weight at 77 is not impossible but very dangerous-some one teach him som Geriatric medicine-thank you

Dr William Stevens didn't even bother to have me do a x-ray or anything else when I asked him about the problem with my lower back he told me that I had fat in between and I had arthritis and if I worked out and lost weight it would go away. This has nothing to do with my back problem where I'd fallen at work . All he did was talk and make me feel like I wasn't hurt, his remedy was totally off the wall. he still never brought up anything about my back pain he never discussed any of the doctors that I'd seen before or anything else he avoided the whole problem. I cannot say that I was happy with him he was rude overpowering and it's his way or the highway.

Didn't seem to add any value - lacking answers and just repeated assessments already provided by referring physician. Office didn't get/collect records from referring physician prior to appointment. I brought the imaging disc as advised.

I could not feel more comfortable at having my neck disassembled and bolted back together :) I've had a fusion before, so this upcoming one is not unexpected, nor was I particularly worried about it. Dr stevens remembered me from being a patient 5 years ago. His assistant and nurse that helped me made everything easy with informing me on what I needed to know and letting them know of my back pain. Dr Stevens assured me it’s the same process again we did before and should be easier this time.

Dr Stephens is at the top of his field. I’m very comfortable with him. He spends time with me and treats like a human being and not a diagnosis. He answers questions and offers good advice. His staff are very personable also.

Excellent patient communication - Approachable, to the point, common language easy to understand and pleasant. Explained his observations, gave me recommendation, asked if I was comfortable with approach.

Really what was the point of me coming in? Just because I've been in pain for years, doesn't mean that I don't need help or that surgery might help or not help 🤷🏼‍♀️ I really thought that I would get a positive response to my problems and I will go get a second opinion because I can't live like this. No one should live in pain every day of their life especially when you're only 50 years old. Oh well

I came in with constant headaches and neck pain shooting down my arm and I was told to lose weight and exercise. I was told I have degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and cervical spondylosis and to live with it. Took all of 5 minutes.

Dr. Stevens and Amy are absolutely amazing! I went in for severe back pain back in May I was basically bedbound and crippled but I woke up after my procedure feeling better and my quality-of-life has skyrocketed! I am so thankful that these two were able to fix my back problems.

Dr. Stevens gave me advise that maybe I didn't WANT to hear, but that I NEEDED to hear. And because I decided to take his advise, I am on my way to improved physical health in more ways than one. I'm grateful for his honesty.

This doctor clearly had a chip on his shoulder from the moment he walked in. I didn’t feel like he cared about my case or helping my situation at all. He was cold, rude, and unwilling to help. He stated he was only there to “consult”. He was okay with doing the bare minimum. What I was asking for in help was clearly within his means. His attitude was very negative. My experience was horrible and I left feeling defeated, sad, embarrassed, and disappointed. He could have been KIND. But he wasn’t. And that’s what makes me mad. I didn’t care what his answers or diagnosis’ were. KINDNESS goes a long way. I will never be going back there. I’ve seen a lot of doctors in the last few years. He was by far the worst experience.

He and Amy did an amazing surgery to correct my back from leaning forward. It was beyond my expectations and the recovery period exceptionally short. Amazing results.

Absolutely outstanding surgeon and man in general. Replace my C-5 C6 that was completely degenerated and I couldn’t be happier. After 10 years of suffering with excruciating debilitating pain he gave me life back.

During our visit, Dr Stevens brought up an answer on the pre-visit pain questionnaire in which I had stated that pain kept me in bed most days. I confirmed that as accurate. Then he flatly asked “...why?” as if that were a totally inappropriate and unheard of response to living with chronic pain. I tried to say, “well, I’m in pain, I’m depressed, I feel hopeless...” and he said nothing. He seemed disinterested. I felt invalidated and unheard. My pain is real and my experience is valid.

He was very rude because he had to see me because I was 7 mins late for the first time. So if a patient would have held him up 7 mins that he was seeing and I had to wait it would be perfectly fine. His attitude was disgusting i pay to see him it’s not like this is free I paid $182 to be treated so horrible. I will not be returning and do not recommend this doctor. Save your time and money for a doctor that actually cares. I’ve never had such a horrible experience with a doctor it’s so sad.

Initially went for tailbone pain. They sent me to PT which does nothing for tailbone pain. Went back to office only to be told "There is nothing that can be done for tailbone pain. Thank you, goodbye." THEN WHY DID THEY EVEN SEE ME THE FIRST TIME!?! The doctor and the office are very stuck up and arrogant. If you ain't rich - do go here!

He barely introduced himself before pawning me off to the PA. I was originally asked if I wanted the PA or doctor and I chose the later date for him. I’m not going to let the PA do the surgery so it is important that I get to know the doctor.

Meh, just didn't much care for him... If I would have to have surgery, I would not want him to do it.
