William D. Priester, MD is a board certified internist and cardiologist serving the community of New York, NY. Dr. Priester discovered his calling as a doctor when working as an orderly at the University Hospital in Iowa City. He was not quite sure what to do with his life at the time when one day he read a headline in The Des Moines Register that stated, “We need more MD’s and fewer PhD’s.” At that moment Dr. Priester knew he wanted to be a doctor. He explains, “All of a sudden a light went off. I thought to myself that’s what I’m going to do, and after that everything just fell into place.”
Dr. Priester earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital in New York. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he continues as an Adjunct Attending Physician. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Priester is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the New York County Medical Society and the New York County Cardiology Society.
Dr. Priester’s philosophy for his medical practice is based on two principles. First is to be an active and open listener. He says, “I try not to fit patients into preconceived ideas, but instead try to figure out where the patient is really coming from.” Second is to use a practical approach to diagnosing and treating his patients. He elaborates, “After identifying the problem and determining the therapeutic options, I discuss with the patient a treatment course and the specific goals we are trying to achieve. What counts most to me is whether the treatment is actually working”
In his free time Dr. Priester plays squash for his physical and mental health, loves the challenge of evil Sudoku, is an avid gardener, and continues to try to improve his poor French.
