Dr. Viren Rana, a board-certified ophthalmologist, was born in New York City and raised in Michigan, where he discovered his passions by blending science, creativity, and communication. He graduated cum laude from Saint Louis University with dual degrees in Broadcasting Journalism and Biology, then pursued his medical degree at Kansas City University School of Medicine. There, he was selected for an additional Master’s in Clinical Anatomy and Medical Education—an honor that allowed him to educate in lecture halls, lead anatomical dissection courses, and conduct ophthalmology research.
Following his academic achievements, Dr. Rana completed his medical internship in Internal Medicine at Brown University, where he further strengthened his foundation in comprehensive patient care and collaborative medicine.
He went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at Brown University, serving as Chief Resident, before pursuing advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Yale University. There, he gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and surgical management of complex retinal disorders under the mentorship of leaders in the field.
Dr. Rana’s clinical expertise includes the management of macular degeneration, diabetic retinal disease, secondary intraocular lens repair, and complex traumatic retinal detachments. In addition to his surgical practice, he actively participates in clinical trials and research, ensuring his patients have access to the most innovative therapies and cutting-edge advancements in retina care.
