Vasily Assikis, M.D.

Dr. Vasily Assikis is nationally known for his expertise in the management of Genitourinary malignancies. He treats patients with all cancer types given his extensive experience in oncology and hematology. He joined Piedmont Cancer Institute, P.C. in 2006 following his faculty appointment with Emory University as a Distinguished Georgia Cancer Coalition Scholar and Assistant Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute. In his role, he also served as the Director of the Prostate Cancer Translational Research program.

Dr. Assikis is the recipient of numerous honors and awards: 1997, Intern of the Year at Cook County Hospital, Department of Medicine; 2002 American Association Cancer Research Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Research Award; 2002 and 2003 American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award; 2002 Glaxo Smith Kline Award for Oncology Research; and MD Anderson Cancer Center Trainee Recognition Award for Patient-Oriented research.

Dr. Assikis has been lecturing extensively on prostate cancer and is nationally known for his expertise in the management of Genitourinary malignancies. He is an accomplished author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and manuscripts in the areas of prostate and breast cancer. Since its inception, he has served as the Chair of the Genitourinary Malignancies Committee for CCE (Cancer Clinics of Excellence).

Dr. Assikis is actively involved in research efforts focusing on improved therapies for various cancers and has served as the national Principal Investigator for two multi-center clinical trials he conceived. He sits on the Piedmont Hospital Institutional Review Board.

Dr. Assikis is married with two children. He enjoys reading, travel, and spending time with his children. He hopes to run a Marathon before he turns 50.
