Dr. Valerie Rygiel is an ostopathically trained primary care sports medicine physician. She is board certified in family medicine and is fellowship trained in non-operative orthopedics. As an osteopathic physician, she takes a whole person approach to medicine and understands the importance of treating all aspects of disease. Dr. Rygiel believes in using exercise as medicine and strives to teach her patients the tools for achieving happy and healthy lifestyles naturally. In addition to ultrasound guided injections and trigger points, Dr. Rygiel practices Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT); a hands-on treatment that is performed in office for various musculoskeletal conditions including rib dysfunction, chronic neck and back pain.
Dr. Rygiel grew up in the Metro-Detroit area of Michigan and double majored in Human Biology and Psychology at Michigan State University. She earned her medical degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL. Dr. Rygiel graduated from the Family Medicine Residency program at Advocate Christ Medicine Center in Oak Lawn, IL where she served as chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine with the University of Chicago/ NorthShore.
Dr. Rygiel is very excited to be the newest addition to the physician staff at Midwest Orthopedic Consultants. In addition to clinic office hours at both the Oak Lawn and Orland Park offices, Dr. Rygiel plans on having an active role in the community including serving as team physician for Victor J Andrew High School in Tinley Park. She has an interest in clinical research and continuing education and has presented at several regional and national conferences. Dr. Rygiel has had an active role with the medical planning for the Chicago Marathon and is currently undergoing research on the injury pattern of runners.
