Uday Khosla, MD

Dr. Uday Khosla is a board-certified nephrologist who has practiced in Houston since 2004. He treats chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, blood pressure that won't come down on standard medications, protein in the urine, glomerular disease, polycystic kidney disease, and the electrolyte and mineral problems that follow declining kidney function. He manages patients on in-center and home dialysis, and follows kidney transplant recipients long after surgery.

Most of his patients arrive holding a lab result nobody has explained to them. That is where the first visit starts — what the numbers mean, what is driving them, and what can still be changed. From there the work is unglamorous, and it is what protects kidney function: getting blood pressure to target, adjusting medications the kidneys can no longer clear, treating diabetes and the kidney as one problem rather than two, and catching trouble early enough to keep people out of the hospital. When function does decline far enough that dialysis or transplant becomes the conversation, he wants it planned months ahead — not decided in an emergency room.

Dr. Khosla earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He came to Houston for his internal medicine internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine, stayed at Baylor for his fellowship in nephrology and hypertension, and completed additional training in renal ultrasound at Emory University School of Medicine. His research has appeared in Kidney International and the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.

He sees patients in the office, in the hospital, at dialysis units across Houston, and at home — and by video visit anywhere in Texas. He is the managing partner of Remix Medical, the physician-owned practice where he sees patients.
