Dr. Tyler Wheeler, M.D., a Modern Luxury – Atlantan Magazine Top Doctor & Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Atlanta, joined Family Practice Center in 2014 and became a partner in 2018.
Dr. Wheeler specializes in family medicine, with an emphasis on sports medicine and dermatology. He is board-certified in both family and sports medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree at Sewanee: The University of the South and medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine. As a medical student, he was elected by his peers into the Gold Humanism in Medicine Society and was awarded the Service to the Family of Man Award by Mercer’s department of Family Medicine in recognition of his humanistic and academic achievements. Dr. Wheeler completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Washington (UW), consistently among the top Family Medicine departments in the Country. During his time at UW, Dr. Wheeler earned an area of concentration certificate in dermatology and was again awarded for his outstanding bedside manner. After residency, he completed a one-year sports medicine fellowship at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho, where he served as one of several team physicians for Boise State University Athletics.
Outside of Family Practice Center, Dr. Wheeler serves as the primary care sports medicine physician for Kennesaw State University Athletics and he teaches medical students as an adjunct professor of family medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He and his wife, Lindsay, live in Virginia Highland with their two dogs, Rubin and Adelaide. They are active in their community, season ticket holders to the Atlanta United, fitness enthusiasts, expert skiers, nature lovers, and seasoned world travelers.
