Dr. Goldberg is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. Surgically, Dr. Goldberg focuses on:
Anterior Approach Total Hip Replacement (primary and revision) Hip preservation and Arthroscopy Total Knee Replacement (primary and revision) Partial Knee Replacement Knee Arthroscopy A native Texan, Dr. Goldberg graduated from Southern Methodist University and University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He subsequently completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency training at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga. He completed his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the University of Utah under Dr. Aaron A. Hofmann.
After three years in clinical practice, Dr. Goldberg became dissatisfied with his patient outcomes and embarked on further sub-specialization in anterior approach total hip replacement. In 2007, he trained with Joel Matta in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he traveled to the Balgrist Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, to train under Drs. Claudio Dora and Fabian Kalberer. He then finished training in Paris under Frederic Laude, MD.
Dr. Goldberg was fortunate to perform his fellowship under Dr. Hofmann, an early pioneer in Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (CAOS). Consequently, Dr. Goldberg was uniquely positioned to participate in design teams for surgery navigation systems, robotic surgical techniques, and patient-specific instrumentation. He has co-developed multiple implants for both hip and knee replacements used worldwide.
An avid researcher and educator, Dr. Goldberg has published numerous medical literature articles, presented at many national and international meetings, and performed live surgical demonstrations for individual surgeons and conferences.
Currently, Dr. Goldberg is working on education platforms to teach surgeons remotely via virtual reality, specifically anterior approach revision surgery on the hip. He is extending that virtual platform to the knee by developing an intra-operative. Augmented Reality technique to perform knee replacement.
Augmented reality, in short, will allow the surgeon to assess knee function after surgery before the surgical cuts are even completed. This technique will enable the surgeon to completely customize each knee replacement for a patient and give instant feedback about the accuracy of the procedure.
Dr. Goldberg practiced at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic from 2004 – 2007. He then relocated to Texas Orthopedics, LLC from 2007 – 2021. In November 2021, Dr. Goldberg co-founded Austin Orthopedic Institute to focus on patient experience with their orthopedic surgeon.
