My only complaint is that Dr. Patel didn’t have much time to spend with me. When I signed in, I observed that the person who signed in before me had an appointment time with Dr.Patel only 10 minutes before mine. This is overbooking, in my opinion.

Takes his time to explain the diagnosis in great detail. Never in a rush. Patient is always first. Creates an atmosphere of trust and he goes out of his way to personally help, making calls to other doctors to get you the care and treatment you need.

I was able to get an appointment with Dr Patel within a few days. He explained my spine issues and sent me to a pain management specialist Dr Irwin right away. She was able to give me a shot and I have a second appointment with her and a follow-up with Dr Patel. Thank you both.

Dr. Patel took the time to go over all the details of my MRI so that I could understand what was happening. He offers clear, kind, and intelligent direction. The office staff is great and I would highly recommend this practice.

He has been in practice since 1994 and served as Chief of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopedics, Yale University School of Medicine until 2000 before treating patients in Northern Virginia until 2017.
Dr. Patel’s research interests include tissue engineering, bone growth factors, and innovative techniques in spinal surgery, and his efforts have led to multiple peer-reviewed publications and numerous patents. He is currently a member of the North American Spine Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and a founding member of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. Dr. Patel's research, academic, and extensive clinical experience allow him to collaboratively develop individualized care plans to allow patients to return as rapidly as possible to a healthy, active lifestyle, with surgery as a last resort.
