From the time he was a young boy growing up in Reno, Nevada, Dr. Timothy Dooley imagined himself as a physician. With a surgeon father, he saw up close how one person could positively impact the life of another.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Bowdoin College in Maine, Dr. Dooley returned to his native Reno to attend the University of Nevada School of Medicine, then to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for internship; and Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, for his residency. While he knew he wanted to work in orthopaedics, Dr. Dooley wasn’t certain of his specialty until he met a passionate mentor, Dr. Richard Uhl, who guided him toward hand surgery.
For Dr. Dooley, the hand offers both variety and complexity that he finds rewarding. Orthopaedic hand specialists not only treat bone injury, they also address hand-related artery, nerve and soft tissue challenges, requiring more extensive training. After his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Dooley completed a hand surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.
For Dr. Dooley, sometimes less is more when it comes to treating orthopaedic injury. He always seeks the least invasive, simplest way to treat a problem first, turning to surgery only when it is the option that will yield the best results for the patient.
While coming home to Reno was always a priority for Dr. Dooley, he could have chosen to work elsewhere. He chose Great Basin Orthopaedics because of their sincere approach to caring for patients as individuals with unique needs.
Dr. Dooley and his wife Erin are happy to be settled back in Reno to raise their two young boys. When he’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Dooley enjoys spending time with family outdoors, taking advantage of everything the Sierras have to offer. On a given day, you can find him and his family hiking, cycling, boating, skiing or golfing.
Charming doctor with a good sense of humor.
He was really nice & helpful.
Wonderful Dr, Kind, caring and an excellent surgeon! Three years ago, I asked You to fix my right hand in one surgery, you were taken aback at first, the quietly contemplated and after a few very long minutes, stated, I think three procedures at once is a lot, are you certain you won't reconsider? Your manner was serious, it gave me pause for about 3 heartbeats; calmly I shook my head, then spoke no. This will be a very arduous and long recovery, you warned. A trifecta, I joked smiling, I'm game. Surgery and recovery went well, followed by 10 weeks of physical therapy from Swope, just right upstairs. I no longer have swelling from arthritis, nor do I drop things, get my fingers stuck in place halfway open. I can actually write in cursive, use my thumb without pain. I marvel everyday at the many normal things I can do once again, crochet, diaper a squirming baby and fit tiny legos as I build something odd playing with my youngest grandson. You are a marvel Dr Dooley!

Dr. Dooley was personable, professional. He took his with me. He used phrases that were understandable to a non medical person. As a new patient, I was put at ease and very comfortable with Dr. Dooley.
Dr. Dooley is one of the most wonderful physicians I have had the pleasure of receiving care from. He was excellent in his thorough assessment, prompt diagnosis, and care plan.
