From the time he was a young boy growing up in Reno, Nevada, Dr. Timothy Dooley imagined himself as a physician. With a surgeon father, he saw up close how one person could positively impact the life of another.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Bowdoin College in Maine, Dr. Dooley returned to his native Reno to attend the University of Nevada School of Medicine, then to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for internship; and Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, for his residency. While he knew he wanted to work in orthopaedics, Dr. Dooley wasn’t certain of his specialty until he met a passionate mentor, Dr. Richard Uhl, who guided him toward hand surgery.
For Dr. Dooley, the hand offers both variety and complexity that he finds rewarding. For Dr. Dooley, sometimes less is more when it comes to treating orthopaedic injury. He always seeks the least invasive, simplest way to treat a problem first, turning to surgery only when it is the option that will yield the best results for the patient.
While coming home to Reno was always a priority for Dr. Dooley, he could have chosen to work elsewhere. He chose Great Basin Orthopaedics because of their sincere approach to caring for patients as individuals with unique needs.
Dr. Dooley and his wife Erin are happy to be settled back in Reno to raise their two young boys. When he’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Dooley enjoys spending time with family outdoors, taking advantage of everything the Sierras have to offer. On a given day, you can find him and his family hiking, cycling, boating, skiing or golfing.
