Thomas Wood, MD acknowledges that the quality of education and training truly makes a difference in treatment outcomes. Joining Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists, the only comprehensive group of fellowship-trained orthopedic specialists in the area and working alongside Acadiana’s most experienced Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Specialist, Chris Hebert, MD, was an easy choice for the next step in his career. Today, he specializes in a variety of surgical procedures that include ankle replacement, foot and ankle reconstruction, cavus foot correction, minimally invasive bunion surgery, ankle fusion and more.
Prior to joining LOS, Dr. Wood served as an Orthopedic Surgeon for the United States Air Force where he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery and deployed in support of tactical operations. After honorable discharge, he pursued an additional year of subspecialty training in Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Surgery at the prestigious Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction in Baltimore, Maryland. In Baltimore, he was trained by leading experts in minimally invasive techniques, ankle arthroplasty, arthroscopy and traditional foot and ankle reconstruction techniques.
Growing up in Jackson, MS, he attended the University of Mississippi where he played club rugby and graduated Magna cum Laude (BA Biochemistry). While playing rugby, Dr. Wood sustained knee and shoulder injuries, which introduced him to the field of orthopedic surgery. Ultimately, he underwent surgery for shoulder dislocations/instability, and was able to return to play for a successful senior season.
The ability of an orthopedic surgeon to decrease pain and restore function made a lasting impression on him and his career pursuits. He went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency with the Air Force in San Antonio, TX.
“LOS is a group of exceptional surgeons that practice what they are subspecialty trained in. They are also good individuals that care about their families and the community. There is a need for the skills that I have learned, and my family fell in love with the great food and nice people in Acadiana.”
Outside of his practice, Dr. Wood enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, heading outdoors, and watching a variety of sports.

Knowledgeable
First time seeing Dr Wood for an ankle problem. Prescribed ankle brace ( using at present) and also orthotic shoe inserts (awaiting appt for Inserts at Hanger in Opelousas.) All in all hoping this helps with my ankle pain!!! Follow up appointment in July, 2025!
It seems like the doctor was in a huge rush.
Very attentive and caring. Assessed my issue and came up with a strong plan.
Extremely Nice , Knowledgeable and explain everything in Detail. 😎👍
Fantastic visit. Dr. Wood was very respectful and has a great bedside manner and is straight to the point, which I prefer. He is very knowledgeable as was his following assistant. He also treats his staff with respect.
Wait time 2 hours. Wait time to answer phones 20-30 minutes when I called to ask a question. Maybe you need more people answering phones. Nursing staff unprofessional. Asked personal questions standing in the hall outside my open exam room. She never came in to converse with me. Staff on a baseline very dry and impersonal. Dr Wood is knowledgeable, friendly and answered all my questions but seemed in a hurry to get out my room. I had to stop him to finish answering my questions.
Dr. Wood was very thorough and took time to listen to me and try to find the answer to my ankle pain.
He made me feel comfortable and like he was truly interested in diagnosing my issues.
